Hi
I have a 3DS on 9.2.0 European model. I didn't use it for a while and some days ago I started playing with it again. I also found out about the gateway3ds which I intend to buy when it adds the 9.2.0 support.

Now I have some thoughts.

I also found out about the New 3DS and I got into thinking about selling my 3ds and buying a NEW 3DS XL (or LL, don't know how it is called ^^) when it is available on my country (GREECE)

Now what confuses me is the process. I have a couple of eshop apps on my 3ds. How do I get to keep them on the new 3ds unit when I get it? Do I have to first buy the new unit, do a system transfer and then sell my old 3ds? Or is there a way to sell the 3ds and keep the NINTENDO ID and apps to install on my new 3ds?

Also I hope that when New 3ds releases in GREECE will be on version 9.2.0 and not higher so that gateway will be supported.

Any thoughts?

You have to have the second 3DS. There is no permanent account system for the 3DS.

Ok so I will have to first buy the new 3ds, transfer and then sell the old one. Got it. Is any way before I buy the new console to check buy its serial what firmware it will be running?

By the time the n3DS is officially released in Europe / Greece we'll already be at version 10 or something since it won't be released until late Q1/mid 2015.
Get the Australian n3DS as soon as possible, since it's literally the same device you would get if you were to buy it next year when it's officially released in Europe. And yes, everything like the eShop and System Transfer works just fine.

It's possible. Some people used the release date (not serial number) to find 3DSes capable of running Gateway. But, like rctgamer3 said, you're not gonna get a EUR New 3DS any time soon. We have no way of knowing what firmware it will have on it, and whether or not Gateway will be compatible with it. For all we know, the next firmware update could block Gateway once and for all. It's all unknown at this point.

If you're serious about getting a New 3DS, I'd wait until the latest Gateway firmware comes out and we know for sure it works with the New 3DS. Then I'd recommend you importing the AUS New 3DS.

the european boxes will probably be different from the ones already released, so we don't know.
My box has a serial code on the bottom that says KTR-S-WAAA.
It's possible the newer units with newer firmware will have the same serial code.

On the system transfer thing, at EB Games in Australia they let you buy the new system and transfer your data in the shop before handing in the old system to get the new one for a lower price.
You'd get more money if you sell it on it's own though.

Wow I just noticed I can get a japanese 3ds for 150euro delivered to me :). And I believe I can sell mine for around 80-90 euro. The question is what is the downsides of having a japanese version if I am gonna use it with gateway3ds?

Japanese console comes with 8.1 - it will take you a minimum of one week for the console to reach you from Japan to Greece? If in that time Nintendo releases 9.3, and if Gateway is blocked - then you'll have to import Japanese games and play them in Japanese.

If none of that happens, you'll be fone with a JP N3DS LL :P

You won't be able to transfer your EURO 3DS eShop games with a JAP 3DS

The possible downside is the console being useless if Gateway ever gets blocked. At least with a EUR console, you'd be able to play EUR games after that.

Hmmm got it. So it is not safe to order a japanese version cause if Nintendo releases a new firmware until it is here then I am in big trouble. So I will probably get a gateway when they release 9.2.0 support since my 3ds is 9.2.0 now. Stay on this firmware and never update and keep playing on my 3ds with gateway until new 3ds releases in Europe and if at that point there is a way to get the new 3ds and use my gateway on it I do it and then sell my old 3ds. Else I stay with my old 3ds.
One last question. If I have wifi enabled is there a chance my 3ds updates on its one? I have spotpass updates turned off on my console

I would not panic about them patching an unreleased exploit ;).
Chances are, though, that it's the same as the Sky3DS one, or at least the same entrypoint. So, it wouldn't be unreleased then.

Your 3DS will not update automatically. It may download an update, but there are multiple warning screens you need to pass through before it starts updating. WiFi is safe.
