Yeah your probably rite about all that but seen as though many have said not to use it in the first instance I would tend to lean to the many and not use it myself else why mention it in the first place. I would rather wait for GW's next update to be safe than use some half soaked CFW to use the SMB2 DLC and I think others should read and digest and do the same before its too late! Know one knows 100% for sure if this CFW is safe to use, at all.

I have 2 SD cards so I can switch between either the CFW or gateway firmware by swapping them out. Having used the CFW pretty extensively and having reversed the code, I can say that I am confident this will not result in a brick as long as you are intelligent about what you do. That said, proceed at your own risk.

It amazes me the fact people with a Gateway card are still willing to use this hack knowing this guy is a hacker himself and devs and others have told its not advisable to use!. Think about it???, you use your 3DS with your debit cards etc. on e-shop and he will have access to all your details, probably also don't you think its a bit of a coincidence the fact you need an e-shop title to run it "make sure you have used your debit card previously on e-shop to buy a game so I can access your details asap  "!!!! I can understand the people with a 4.x 3DS who don't own a Gateway card using it out of desperation but really if you still have a 4.x 3DS why don't you own a Gateway card anyway? and people with a Gateway card if your just using it to run .cia content then GW themselves are probably covering this in there next update, why don't you wait a while to be safe! :)

I beg these questions to be answered:-

1. Why do you need an internet connection running???

2.Why do you need a pre installed e-shop title???

3. Why do you need to copy and paste your IP address over???.

Has anyone stopped and thought these things could just be a trap for 3DS owners. :(

Edit: also I thought mods shut the other thread for the same reason what is going on in this thread or am I missing something?

He probably has your IP just from visiting *the website*.

Has anyone with a American 3DS been able to run a game (like NSM2) with DevMenu?

I was able to. However when you install it, it does not add an icon to the home menu. Instead you must launch it from DevMenu. Under the programs tab look for a new item and it will be there.
I was able to launch NSMB2 this way. However, this causes a glitch when you try to quit the game. If you press the Home button, your 3ds will crash.

To all those who think this is some trick for getting your IP/Hacking you/getting personal info:

The only stage of this that could possibly be stealing info is the part where you run the application on your computer. If you don't like having to connect your 3DS to the internet to send a CIA, repurpose your Wireless function on your computer as an access point that is not connected to the internet. Connect your 3ds to that, and try sending the cia then. That *should* work.

Really though, I would just watch what you run on your PC. That is the weakest link. Personally, I think the whole "ITS A VIRUS/BRICK DEVICE" is simply drama, and if there are bricks, it is simply from unfinished, unstable code.

I tried to convert a .3ds rom (gateway dump) to a .cia file.
So I used rom_tool (on windows) to extract to a cxi and a cfa file from the rom with this command :
Code:
rom_tool -x <directory for extracted files> Test.3ds
Then I used makerom (on linux) to convert the cxi and the cfa file to a .cia file with a command like this
Code:
makerom -f cia -content homebrew.cxi:0:0 -content manual.cfa:1:1 -o homebrew.cia
I got these errors
Code:
[CIA WARNING] Common Key could not be loaded, CIA will not be encrypted
[NCCH ERROR] Failed to load ncch aes key
[CIA WARNING] CXI AES Key could not be loaded
Meta Region, SaveDataSize, Remaster Version cannot be obtained
but a .cia was generated, i imported it with the devmenu, it succeeded but when I tried to launch it I have the black screen error. What did I do wrong?

I tried with the windows of makerom, I only habe these warnings now :
Code:
[CIA WARNING] CXI AES Key could not be loaded
Meta Region, SaveDataSize, Remaster Version cannot be obtained
but I still have a black screen error when I launch the installed game. :(

Are you sure it is a 4.5 compatible game? I did the same thing with the new KORG app, and forgot that it would not be compatible with an old firmware.

Yesterday I tried to launch Super Mario Deluxe VC release with Devmenu but it didn't work, I received an error but can't remember exactly which one, it was something like the SD card was removed...

Try to decrypt the ROM before you repack it.

I have released the ctrclient commands. Unless you are a developer, I suggest you do not experiment with these commands.
