Is it safe to update my 3ds system to the latest 9.X.X software on my gateway? I need to update the smash rom thru the eshop and in order to go on eshop i need to do a system update. Is it okay to update the system using gateway 2.3omega?

As has been posted hundreds of times, it is not compatible. It will simply not boot.
