Gaming Will Bayonetta 2 be a flop?

The First Print Edition (£59.99) which is limited to 15k copies is already out of stock from Nintendo UK and GAME UK, so that's a good sign (doesn't mean it'll do wonderfully though) and the Special Edition (£39.85) (that includes a physical copy of B1) is ShopTo's number one most pre-ordered Wii U titled as of now.

On Base.com the Standard Edition (£29.99) is also doing pretty good as well as on Amazon UK (£31.85) on second place (Zelda: Dynasty Warriors is on 1st).

So overall the game might sell fairly well but it won't hit Mario Kart 8's two million copies sold or the upcoming Super Smash Bros. that will make Wii U's fly off the shelves just because of SSBU (if the game comes out during Christmas that is). Christmas is a very hectic time for retailers but also the most profitable season of all.

By the way, even if Watch Dogs is better on the Wii U (doubtful) its sales will do terribly unless UbiSoft makes advertisement about and UbiSoft has confirmed that Watch Dogs is UbiSoft's last "mature" game for the Wii U.

The game barely did anything on both PS3 and 360. Why will it sell any better on a niche console like the Wii U?

It's not going to be a hit at least. Bayonetta was a niche title when it was a widely available multiplatform game, and now it's limited exclusively to the least popular current gen console. Nintendo did shit all to promote the Wonderful 101 and while a direct is nice, only so many people really watch those; Bayonetta 2's going to need a lot more to catch the eye of the console's market base.

Bayonetta 2 will probably do better than The Wonderful 101 in the sense that it likely won't crash and burn upon release, but you shouldn't hold your breath for any sort of real success.

All this Wii U negativity is making me nauseous. Seriously, when did we start caring more about sales predictions and market shares, and stopped caring about the games? Bayonetta 2 looks totally sweet, and I'm sure it will do well by Wii U standards. I'm definitely getting the special edition, unless I can get my hands on a first print.

To be fair the title of the thread is "Will Bayonetta 2 be a flop?" and Nintendo's resurrecting of the franchise as an exclusive to their console is a fairly important component of said predictions.

Everyone's always excited for good games, the reason why sales are a concern is that a given system will only get more good games if it sells them. I know it's a sad prospect, but it's the truth - if the game will sell poorly, it might not see another sequel in the future, and judging by the Wii U trends, M games just don't do well on it.

If you actually read the first post, you'd see WiiCube listing off reasons why he thinks the game will be a financial success. If you're getting so butt bungled over his choice of words in the title, you need to lay off the victim complex Kool-Aid.

I have read it. That's why the title seemed strange to me, since so far Bayonetta 2 seems to be doing well. As for the victim complex, it's not like I complain about this type of stuff daily. In fact, I don't think I have before. It's just the negativity I've had enough of. For today, at least. It's hard to find a topic where people are actually talking about games. It's either "Umm, so I got this Gateway, but my 3DS says 8.x because I just updated" or "Here's what can save Vita! Games I want!" or "Xbox One sucks, because we already have PS4s" or "Wii U has no games". That's GBATemp in a nutshell, and I'm fine with that most of the time, but sometimes it's as if people try turning positives into negatives, and will go out of their way to do so.

Hey guys, Smash Bros for the Wii U is going to flop because it's for the Wii U!!!!



The reason I wont be buying Bayonetta 2 is because of the price: 7,700 yen. That's roughly the same as Hyrule Warriors. As of now the exchange rate is 104 JPY to 1 USD. This game with tax is roughly 80 USD. **** that. If I had to take a stab at the reason the mobile market is trouncing the console market, it's because of game pricing. If that's truly the case, it's not necessarily a bad thing, as it may push Nintendo and Sony to be more competitive with pricing. Imagine if the E-Shop did summer time sales like Steam.
