I wanted to use gateway card with new beta so this is what i did

1. download beta and extract to folder
2. copy the blue card to blue card micro sd
3.run blue card installer
4. take sd card outta 3ds xl and copy launcher
5. start up 3ds xl and open gateway
6. format emunand and restart machine
7. i see gateway is on gwd 4.5 etc
8. go to settings and input wi fi settibgs and then go to setting and other and update system

9 . WTF i am on sys nand 8.1 !!!!

someone tell me where i went wrong as i am pretty sure i did same thing on previous machine and it all worked fine ...

did you exit system settings or anything in between seeing GW3D and updating, exiting system settings resets the system and kicks you back to sysnand

PS if you really did have emunand set up you can use emunand tool to extract the not updated 4.x emunand which can be used to restore to the console

PPS i do the nand mods and im UK based :P so as long as you can get the 4.x nand from emunand it can be downgraded

true but that is beside the point as i have no way to restore it even if i did.

You could have gotten someone to downgrade for you, if you had the backup. As it stands, there's nothing you can do but wait and see if Smealum has good news for you in a couple of months.

Your mistake was not launching gateway and booting the EMUnand before updating. There's a reason the guides state you should make folders so you can clearly see which nand you're in.

get emunand tool and you will be able to get a 4.x dump to restore to your console....again as long as you really did have emunand set up in the first place

Are you sure? I thought the developer clearly stated it can't be used to downgrade a console.

positive i have used emunand dump to restore to consoles before, as long as he did set up emunand, and then didnt update it, and updated sysnand instead....the emunand he set up will be a perfectly fine 4.x nand backup

Doesn't going into WiFi settings partially send you sysNAND somehow? Because I've heard people complain that they updated sysNAND because they did it without exiting and entering emuNAND.

if he picked format emunand that will be a perfectly valid 4.x nand to restore with once extracted with emunand tool...all may not be lost
I hope it's not me who gets it wrong but isn't the process like this?
1. Launch Gateway menu, choose "Backup system NAND" option, let GW backup your NAND
2. Pick "Format emuNAND" which then creates a valid emuNAND partition from the NAND.bin created in step 1?
If he didn't do the backup before formatting emuNAND how could there ever be a valid emuNAND created?

Again, it could be me whose mixing something up here but those steps are even stated in the official statement on the Gateway 3DS homepgae, and that's how I always did it

the "format emunand" process itself copies your current nand to the emunand partition, where as the "backup emunand" saves it to the SD card as a file

both processes effectively do the same thing but store it in a different way
