Origin Games Irritation

its great that EA is giving away games once in a blue moon on Origin.
Whats not so great is that these games only work if I'm signed into the Origin client.
Now, whats the problem with that? Everybody has internet right?
Sure.
But not everybody lives in a place where internet is carved in diamond.
I live in a village in the middle of a mountain range, and what we (me and my family) have to deal with is that the occassional thunderstorm knocks out the internet, or there is maintanance for a few days.
Besides that, I have siblings, and mostly the games I bother to download from Origin give-aways or just in general usually appeal to them more than me.
The problem is, with Origin activating the whole time with the game, my siblings have free access to my account. Something I verymuch want to avoid (would hate to find a demo of Battlefield III installed on the laptop).

So, is there any (hacky) sort of way to "detatch" the games downloaded with Origin from the client?

Y'know, the free games are supposed to be an incentive for you to have the Origin client installed in the first place. EA is not doing this for charity, they want you to use their client.

Well you won't really be able to solve the internet problem. Kinda shitty but it's a downside of the client.

As for sibling usage, pretty sure you can just set an option so that Origin doesn't auto log-in and then you just log in with a password every time it starts and log off when you're done. Or make a separate account on the computer, put a password on that account, and use Origin.

But I'm more worried about what a bunch of kids do with a computer than a possible security risk from some game company.

One hacky sort of way I can think of is to take up the sword of seafaring marauders to hack away at your victims.

Looking for penguins in taverns or some other nonsense like that works too.

Too bad more PC gamers don't react to this sort of "have to be connected all the time" thing the way everyone did when MS tried it with Xbone.

Only solution I can think of would be to not use these versions of the games and look for copies (legit or otherwise if that's how you roll) that don't have such a requirement.

People were massively assblasted when Origin was announced, let alone the always-online connectivity. Hell people were made when Ubisoft did it with Assassin's Creed II all those years ago. People are STILL mad about it today.

lel wut? Toooooooooooooooons of PC gamers still bitch at EA/Origin, like...all the time. Though most gamers just tolerate it, since it's not even that bad seeing how a majority of PC gamers have some sort of internet connection.


As for the OP's question, I believe all of the pre-Origin EA games that they "ported" over to Origin don't actually require Origin at all. Stuff that comes to mind is Dead Space 1+2, Spore, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and other things. Otherwise, you just have to deal with it.

Honestly, I'd probably do that with at least Dead Space if somehow the pirated version doesn't have the same problems the Origin version has on my computer (which is if I'm idle with the keyboard and/or mouse, it'll make the character walk backwards and point upwards).

I play my games offline, once downloaded you just need to verify the licence (by starting the game while online), once you verified bring up the origin client, click on the origin tab and click go offline. Now you csn play the games without being connected to the internet.

I would not be able to play 90% of the games (not that I have a lot) I do if I didn't get it any other way than "otherwise". XD

Yeah, I knoooow, but there's a certain niceness with getting it given for free.
Ok, I totally understand its a commercial stunt, but why not profit from it?

Upon booting your computer, Origin will ask you for your credentials, and when you type them in, it will log-in directly into offline mode (assuming you were in offline mode to begin with when you turned your PC off).

I tried twice before, twice it gave a connection error and told me to check my internet.
Origin then quit itself and the game didn't boot.

steam also has a similar system and it is glitchy to me... sometimes it works very well, sometimes for some reason it asks me to connect to internet again...

but once its working, i dont even need to type the real password xD (i guess they did this as a secure way and steam doesn't really save the password on the offline mode)

Well, origin requires the correct password (atleast in my case), and the GOD DAMNED rember me button doesn't work, as I have to type my creds in EVERY GOD DAMN TIME I turn on my pc (which thanks to it being shitty turns off a lot). I really never encountered any problems with steam.

@ OP if you have a place you can access internet from, try deleting origin and redownloading it (+ the games) there might have something gone wrong durong the installation.

Well... I downloaded Plants vs Zombies from Origin...
And there's never been anything asking me to register it.

I know, and that works... only if there's internet.
If I try to log in without internet, it tries to auto-log me in, but then throws an error saying isn't any internet and gives me the log-in mini window.
Typing my name/password into there and I get the same error.
The only time when I was in "offline mode" was when the internet dropped out while I was already signed into Origin.
