so I just bought a 3ds with a 4.4 firmwire yesterday.
I also bought a gateway from a website, when I called their customerservice the guy didn't seem to know much but he said that I couldn't play more than one game on a micro-sd. this is probably due to the gateway I bought was an older version.

1. can I possibly update the gateway that I bought so it can play more than one game?

2. If I buy a 32gb can I stock it with ds and 3ds games and just play ALL of them of that?

3. can I access the nintendo shop and buy all the virtual console games?

4. can I play online with my friend if he was to get a 3ds with gateway?

5. is 4.4.0 alright?

1. the gateway's fpga will be updated when you use Omega 2.2; multi-rom has been supported for a while now.
2. for 3DS games, yes; for DS games you will need a DS-mode cart like the included blue one (or you can buy a better one e.g. DS-TWO, etc.)
3. not right now as Gateway does not yet support the most recent firmware (8.1.0-X)
4. yes (read up on .3DZ files)
5. yes (4.1.0 - 4.5.0 are all good)

Drag the stuff in the "Blue Card (R4i)" folder onto a microsd you'll be using with the blue card along with the ds roms.

put nds files on bluecard. Play nds files just like you'd launch the installer

Do you still have reinstall the gateway if you use the blue card to play a DS game? i read this on the gateway forums but its hard to tell what are old FAQs and what are new FAQs now. My card should be here next week. I doubt I will play any DS games but just trying to get all the info I can.

Yes, you have to run the exploit from the blue card again everytime you run ds games.

Alright, just making sure...thats what I thought but no one had mentioned it. I've been waiting until multi rom support was added before I picked up the gateway. Got me a new 4.4 Black 3DS on clearance from radioshack for only $89 and sold my old black updated 3ds for about $120 on craigslist lol :). I havent really done much since the Acecard 2i was first released so its good to get back into the rom scene. Now just waiting on the card to arrive.

should I use the SD card that comes with the 3ds when Installing gateway? and also how do I know what version the gateway I have already is?
should I just download Omega 2.2 and go from there?

Yups, you just need 1gb of free space if you're planning on installing emunand.
You can check the version by going into the gateway menu I think (Press R when selecting ds profile)
But 2.2 is totally worth it. There's pretty much no reason not to get it.

thanks for the quick reply man

so should I format it before doing anything?
are you saying that I should put the blue card in without the micro-sd and go to the gateway menu?

(i'm not trying to brick my 3ds lol)

Nope. Nothing needs to be done. Unless you want to create emunand. In that case backup everything on the sd card first.
To get to the gateway menu you need to have already run the exploit from the blue card first. Would be kinda hard if there wasn't a microsd in the blue card lawl.
The exploit has been the same since the beginning so it wouldn't brick your console. Just don't actually boot into gateway mode.

ok, so from my understading the emunand makes it possible for me to play newer games, correct?
could you tell me how to install emunand or point me to the right direction.
why is emunand useful?
can I play Pokemon X and Y without it?

nah you dont "NEED" any bigger than 2gb, 4gb is better for storing saves and and making sure you don't run out of space for saves / game patches, anything more than that would only be if you want to
A) dump your retail games (SD needs enough space to hold the game)
B) you plan to buy a bunch of eshop games when eshop access is available again
C) you like to take loads of pictures/video's on the 3DS

Seems to be a common misconception that emunand is needed for firmware spoofing. It is not.
Gateway mode already spoofs the firmware (ie. you can run games that are >4.5 firmware without updating).
The main purpose of emunand is actually so that you can access the eshop and such.
Unfortunately, due to a new save encryption, it's not possible to create an emunand of the latest version. Since the latest firmware is required to run eshop, emunand is somewhat useless at the moment.
Coming back to pokemon x/y. It requires 2 patches from the eshop. Patches which you can't get. However, that only means you can't use the online features. The rom itself should still boot (not 100% on this though)

And no, the emunand partition only takes up 1gb. I'm using a 8gb card myself so I'm certain that 16gb isn't required.
