For some reason my 3DS battery life seems shorter to me than it used to.
Over two weeks ago I had my 3DS in sleep mode and occasionally played streetpass games for most of the day, where I think it had just over two bars left before I recharged it, but last saturday it was nearly out of power after playing and being in sleep mode for roughly the same amount of time.
I might be imagining things but what do you think could have happened?
I haven't changed any of my settings so I know it's not because of that.
Could it have been because of the new firmware update? I've heard rumors how certain 3DS games drain the battery faster but that seems doubtful.

Well, how long have you had your 3DS? It could just be a declining battery, which happens naturally after a lot of use. If there's still warranty left, you may want to check with Nintendo if they're willing to service it for you.

Do you have internet enabled on it?
The 3DS could have been checking for updates over and over when it was asleep. (That's what my smart phone did and drained the battery)

That's what I thought too, but he said it changed over 2 weeks.

Doesn't it only do that when it detects the three wi-fi connections that are saved in the system?

That doesn't matter. I work at an Apple store and I've often seen how people complain about battery issues that happened almost overnight when everything else was left unchanged on their phones/iPads. OP said the 3DS was in sleep mode, if it was any warm at that point, it could have been slowly eating up the battery, causing the symptoms to show as though it happened just like that.
