well my question is will my 3ds auto download the newest firmware if i go online while just playing a game i dumped using the gateway card? or does the gateway prevents the system form downloading the newest firmware or does any kind of update that involves the firmware stops when playing a game cause i think i got my emunand to 7.2 or something and im kinda scared that it will update my real nand to something higher than 4.5

You need to confirm the installation of the update in order to upgrade.
Therefore, there's no risks.

Or, you could simply disconnect your 3DS from the Internet. Updating requires an Internet connection (for nothing, according to Nintendo it's just a "security" thing), so no Internet, no Updates.

It does Download, but not Install. To Install, it requires your permission.

No the downloaded update will only prompt on the NAND that it downloaded on......but if you leave the wifi connected in sysnand, that too can download the update and start prompting to update

Ps a system format on sysnand will remove the update, but be aware if you have any shop content downloaded on sysnand (I.e ambassador games) it will also delete them

I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't just stealth the firmware updates transparent to the user. It already silently downloads them, why not silently install them too at next reboot? They could totally win the piracy war if they did... Not that I want that to happen, but it's what I would do to secure my product...

Because it's sold world wide, and in some countries it would be deemed illegal to do so, also not notifying the user could cause issues if the user just powers the system down without looking at what it was doing

Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo executives browse GBATemp in their free time... 9_9

Anyways, if they made the firmware modular, they could just release smaller patches too, 20KB here, 36KB there, to patch and fix their exploits almost zero-day.

Yeah but just be aware if you set up a connection on emunand it will copy to the sysnand.....you can then delete it from the system NAND with no problems, but just so your aware
