It's been 24 hours since my last post and this is on a completely different subject from my last post, so I'm going to assume that this does not infringe on the double posting ban.

Just dropping a new post saying that I have updated the general games google doc with the Powersaves codes for Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning. That's all that I have time to do today. Hope that it helps somebody out there.

I've been considering getting this, but my 3DS is Japanese region. Will I have to specifically get the Japanese-release of it, or will either be fine?
Well, the device only recognizes carts that match it's license key. I don't recall this being marketed in Japan, so I don't think that you will be able to use it. A different company does make a editor for Japan, but it will not work with card 2 games from what I understand.

Dang... sigh. After spending about $80 to get the thing, then I just have to worry about not having issues with activating the software (as I've heard of some people not being able to get a functioning code).
Is there any known way to spoof that, or something, to just unlock the software (as it can be easily downloaded and installed without the hardware itself), so I just need the hardware?

The code issue is easily remedied by contacting Datel and seems not to be as big of an issue as it was. Most of the people having problems now are seeming to be related to internet issues or faulty USB cord issues. The software does not tolerate them very well. I'm not aware of a public way to spoof license codes (which would be a violation of the TOU if posted here since that would usually be considered the same as telling somebody where to download ROMs.)

Gotcha. Hm... so now I'm back to whether I just need to buy the hardware (as that would seem to be 'region-free') since I already have the software, and just need the Key...
But they'd ask for the product's ID? Or do they just nicely give you a new Key?

Yeah, that makes sense; certainly be less trouble if they'd just lose the lock thing, but whatever.

Also, not sure the most correct place to look, but as all related threads are already chock full... what exactly does Gateway entail? Does it require writing to the system to use, or can you use it to simply run 3DS ROM or whatever? (Since unless a 'safe' method that has no likely need of soldering/hardware tampering is out, no way am I letting those things near my system; it was pricey enough to buy the first time).

They ask for your license. There is another device on the market that serves as a 3DS dongle that predates Powersaves.

As far your Gateway question goes, there is a wiki that will answer most of your questions. Here is a link that goes directly to the flash cart section.

And if you have more questions after that: here is a link to the sticky topic about flash carts that compares them all.

I see. Well, my interest is mainly in codes for Pokemon on 3DS (limited/exclusive Items, Wondercards, as I act as the distributor among my group) anyways.

Would that other 3DS dongle be of use for that?

I assume the license would be a code printed on the box of the Powersave, right?

The code is located inside of the box, so there is no way to get it unless you open the pack. You can't use any other software for Pokemon other than Powersaves. In theory, the other dongle could work in place of the Powersaves dongle, but I'm not aware of anybody trying it since they bought a Powersaves anyway.

If you are only looking for Pokemon hacking, then you really will have no use for a Gateway. You can't hack things into it. I helped compile the community save with the Powersaves hacks on them, but that required an unmodified 3DS, a Pokemon cart, a second 3DS (Gateway modded), a ROM, and a whole lot of single trades.

i saw another cheat device only for Japanese games , forgot what it called

edit: it called
Cyber Gadget

don't know what cheats it have

Like I said, it doesn't work for card 2 games from what I recall. From what I understand of the device, it allows for hex editing of saves. Not sure of its range of compatibility with the latest encryption keys. It does allow for more flexibility than Powersaves from what I've read about it in the past.

I've been looking forward to a more user controlled way of adding codes like how the old Action Replays work. Keep us updated if Cyber Gadget allows that for Card2 like Pokemon, I wouldnt pass up the chance to add my own codes and I'm sure everyone else here would like that too.

I've actively tried to research as much as I can about it (trying to keep up on the alternatives in case questions ever arise.) There doesn't seem to be a planned Western release as far as I know. It was truly the first editor out there for the 3DS, but I'm not certain if the newest encryption keys on card 1 carts give it trouble. When Powersaves first launched, many people actually preferred the Cyber Gadget capabilities more. Once Powersaves added Card 2 capabilities and a US release, the streams of comparisons seemingly died out, which slowed down my research into it. I am still actively looking into it though. If it adds Card 2 capabilities, I'm sure it will become easier to find out more details. I will keep you posted if I find out anything new.

Thats sad to hear that they are "dying out" but I do appreciate the news. Do keep us posted if anything comes up. Powersaves isnt bad but I prefer not to have my codes all cookie cut for me if you know what I mean.

Look what I found

I don't think so. Its just a gamesave <--> PC tool. No server editing or otherwise with this device.

It actually said so on the webpage

When you intend to use this product, a computer that can connect to the Internet, you will need to download and install the client software. Please check the Setup Guide included with the details.
It only uses the net to get the drivers and whatnot, not for save transport. My point still stands this is not a save editor or cheat device.
Just trying to inform people this is nothing to get excited about.
