PS1/2 PS2 FAT(with mcboot) or PS2 Slim(with modchip)?

I have a question. I have an option for my second PS2. My first PS2 is a slim silver in color, 79001. This I plan to keep, it is non-hacked and my main PS2 for all my original games.

I also have the option for a second PS2. I first got a black slim, and then recentl got a fat.
The seocnd slim is 75001, and the PS2 Fat is 5001/N. I only want to keep one of these, in addition to the silver slim 79001 I mentioned earlier.

The fat PS2 I was told it has only been memory card burned and it has freeMcBoot. I was able to play some burned games, original games, and even some SNES with Snes station that it has installed (awesome since I dont have a SNES).

The black slim 75001 does wierd noises when its on, but the noise level is similar to the other slim I have (but the 75 is a bit more noisy). The black slim has a chip but I am not sure what it is.

With this situation, should I keep the fat 50001 or black slim 75001? I would ideally want a PS2 that can play burned games(that I burn myself) as well as last a long time(reliable). Which should I keep based on this info?

My instinct says that a chipped PS2's laser will grow tired faster. But at this point its really hard to say at what stages of their life these 2 PS2's are, I got both used. I know the fat has gone through at least another owner(I am the 3rd owner at least) and I have no info on the black slim.
Any feedback is appreciated. I want to say that I would love to play SNES on the TV, I play on my PSP and with ZNES on PC, but its not the same. I will eventually get a hacked wii which I also know can emulate snes.

I would keep the chipped slim for PS1 games. Their are some PS2 games that won't work on a scph-75001. You could get a network adapter for the fat and have a play with Free Hard Drive Boot, POPS loader, mini OPL and the hacked OSD. You should be able to install Free McBoot on all of those consoles.

I would put FreeMCBoot on both systems or make a Multi-Installation memory card and swap it between the two whenever it's necessary. Grab a Network adapter. hook up both systems to a router with an Ethernet cable, set up an SMB Share for SMB loading and FTP file transfers, add an HDD to the classic PS2 for HDD loading and you're set for life as far as game compatibility is concerned.

If you already have a bunch of backups patched for FreeMCboot, go with that one. If you already have a bunch of backups that aren't patched for FreeMCboot, go with the chipped one. If you don't have any backups yet or you have a mix of patched and not patched, toss a coin. I would go with the chipped one, but that's just me.

If you're playing backups that puts more wear on the laser, true, but you'll be doing that via either method. Plus there are replacement lasers, so I wouldn't worry that much. Fairly easy to replace on the big PS2, dunno about the slim.

Could someone help me with passing Freemcboot from one memory card to another one please? I simply copy/pasted the files using the normal broswer but when I insert that memory card into the 75000 black chipped slim it doesnt load and freezes.

Download Free McBoot Noobie package. Put it on a flash drive. Use uLaunch to run the installer.

Yeah i know. Its a pain trying to play PS1 backups on a softmodded PS2. POPS loader (needs network adapter & harddrive) or swap trick are the only options (their is a PS1 emulator for the PS2 but its not very good).

The person who sold it gave me a god of war game(original) plus some backups. The GOW game has a circular mark in the middle of the disk, its like a sratch that looks like it was made from the PS2 laser. I had heard of this problem before. I checked the backups and it seems to be the case.

So I have another question, If I put freeMCboot on the memory card of the chipped slim, will mcboot run or the chip hack? Would I be able to play SNES station on my chipped slim?

Both should work at the same time, they have different effects. Using mcboot and a modchip allows loading imports/backups from homebrew (like for HDD installation) without a slide card or flip top.

It depends on your modchip. Free McBoot v1.93 is more likely to work with your modchip than Free McBoot v1.8. Try both of them.

SNES Station can be played from a DVD (maybe even a CD). You can even fill the disc with ROMs. Its even ESR compatible so you can ESR patch it and play it from a DVD on Free McBoot without having to do a swap trick.

You can load SNES Station from USB or memory card with Free McBoot or uLaunch. If you can't load an elf from your memory card or USB with your modchip use a uLaunch CD/DVD. SNES Station will crash if you try to save settings without a disc in the drive, don't think it makers what disc it is.

If I were you I'd install a HDD into the fat, play all backups disc-less. fmcb 1.93 can be installed to HDD now as well but I still prefer to load it from MC since it's a tiny bit faster to load.
Keep the modded slim for your discs, if you want. It's a nice machine to have.

Back when I had a slim and matrix infinity it didn't like FMCB 1.8, according to mk2escort you may have better luck with 1.93.

FMCB can't be copied from MC to MC from the PS2 browser, it's gotta be installed to MC using the installer package.
