Yeah that is totally awesome, I bet you can't wait to tell the other kids at school!
I suppose, but what if the bans take place months after the purchase and poor Jimmy lost his receipt? All the proof he could have is a picture of a cartridge, and then any pirate could easily provide that from a picture skimmed off of Google images.
Paranoid? Okay, equivalent situation then - you have a pen friend from the other side of the country who needs a verified PayPal account so he asks you to give him your credit card details because he doesn't have one himself for whatever reason. He doesn't have your card, your pin, your account password, he just wants the number - do you give it to him? No, because there can always be this one online shop that'll accept a transaction insecurely and without all the protection mechanism. Hell, you don't know what he'll use that number for - for all you know, he could start buying drugs in your name and it's your fault for giving him your number. You just don't know, but you still won't do it because common sense dictates you shouldn't.what? ... so yeah, I was just warning people against paranoid speculation..
Nobody in the universe, that was the whole point of the hyperbole. Say you give someone your Mario Kart ID, he uses it, cheats on a track and gets banned. Let's assume for 5 seconds that it would be an ID ban on top of a Friend Code/NNID ban - you would be banned too in the process even though you didn't cheat. That's well within the realm of possibilities, so we're asking people to be responsible.Who the hell shares credit card details?
I actually think that is a high possibility once cheat functions are available for online play.Nobody in the universe, that was the whole point of the hyperbole. and people work out the numbering system
Those bans would be completely ineffective in this case, for reasons I outlined prior in the very post you quoted. Namely because it isn't hard to find pictures of a cartridge online, thus allowing anyone who cares enough to email pictures the ability to get themselves unbanned.I recently was the so called poor jimmy by completely loosing access to my blizzard Account. 3 Pictures of my physical Starcraft 2 Copy were enough proof for them to transfer all data onto a new account.
I don't think this would be too hard for Ninty to pull off.
Time to go to Gamestop, buy a used 3DS game, dump the game while outside of the store, then go back in and say the game's defective. Muahahaha.
Seriously though, ScarletCrystals, you have a good point. But I don't think anyone here is saying that keeping your IDs to yourself is 100% safe, but that it is much safer than sharing your IDs online.
If ninty has the capability to track duplicate IDs, it just as likely that they can read which game the ID is meant for and whether it matches. So all this fixation on using self ID is moot since you might STILL be banned. It's ridiculous to assert that getting your own ID is going to protect you from being banned.

... borrow a friend's cartridge? Still is a very ineffective measure to ban people if that's all it takes to get it lifted. Furthermore, poor little Jimmy probably has no form of ID, so for the process you outlined he'd have to use another person's, which I suppose could work (parent/guardians), but it isn't very ideal. But are you able to find pictures of cartridges online with your own drivers license and identity card?
Even when you hold that damn thing up to the monitor to show that you take these pictures while writing that email?
Sounds like a solid proof to me.
No, those have nothing to do with this. This is only for 3DS backups and only if you want to play them online.Does this also apply to regular ds flash cards?
