Gaming Is the Wii U really dead? Or...

Hi there! I would like to start a discussion about the possible future of Nintendo's current console.

Many say it's meh, others say it's doomed due to the sales.
But in my opinion, it's only at its beginning.

Do not forget that the console still has many First party strong titles to be seen.
Like a true 3D Mario in the style of Galaxy, two upcoming Zelda titles and what I think will be the biggest sales booster of the console...
Super Smash Bros.

Although I don't like Smash Bros enough to buy it, I know most people will buy a Wii U for that game.

What do you think? Will the Wii U perish or is there a light at the middle of the life cycle?

The Wii U is currently and unfortunately on life support.
I say this with a heavy heart, as I am it's biggest fan.

However I have only used my Wii U recently as a web tablet to look up maps/hints and other stuff for other new games on other systems.
This is not Nintendo's fault entirely oh-no, it's third party support with lack of interest through out all developers.

Can up and coming games save it? Yes, however I don't think Mario Kart and Smash alone will do it, we need firm dates for Zelda, Hyrule Warriors, X, Bayonetta 2 and way more very soon or interest will just fade quickly even from me.. sadly.
I do not own any new generation console besides Wii U, however the PS4 is getting some great titles and they are coming out consistently.

Dead? no, Doomed? meh. The Wii U will be what it is, a missed opportunity by Nintendo with some unique things once upon a time, it will probably go down like Nintendo's Saturn one day

It's something of a Johnny Got His Gun situation. The Wii U certainly isn't dead, but it's not exactly living either. It'll get a steady trickle of support and the heart will keep on beating, but most onlookers will wish that it could just be put out of its misery already.

And then Metallica will make a really rocking song about it, or something, so it's not all bad.

Nintendo will most likely not do the best against its competitors but it will not die. The Wii U had a horrible start and it will pick up with games, who knows this failing system make be the push Nintendo needs to fix mistakes and issues they have had since GC. I'm extremely happy with my Wii U but I will admit that since I've beaten all my current Wii U games I don't really have anything good left to buy and play on the system until something great is released.

Don't be stupid OP. The Wii U is just in a slump. Nintendo is working on some AAA first-party titles like Super Smash Brothers Universe and Mario Kart 8, along with a shitty Destiny Warriors-style Zelda game. So remain calm. Things will perk up soon. They still sell Wii U systems, and games at my Walmart (I work there, and pass them on the way to the time clock every day).

The wiiu has terrible marketing behind it and even more terrible third party support. Result: they're (still) in that situation the wii was in the latter years.

Hard to say things are going to progress. I was thinking of saying something like "it's the logical follow-up to either the xbone or the PS4", but with steam machines coming up I'm not even sure of that. So the wiiu could remain in the shadows for some more years...

This question would have made more sense a year ago. The Wii U is up 25% in sales this February over the same month the year before, following an increase in sales for the month of January as well. I'm not going to say they're doing amazing, but they're gradually doing better. They sold a reported 100,000 consoles in the US for the month. Not PS4 numbers, but still not too shabby. This will most likely be the Wii U's most successful year to date with the biggest games set to release. They could carry over this years success, if they listen to fans and release games such as F-Zero, Star Fox, Eternal Darkness, and Metroid in the following year or two.

I'd say it's a safer bet to say the Vita is closer to being dead in every region, except Japan, where the system is almost single handed being kept afloat.

i'd say it's pretty much finished after smash and kart unless nintendo get their asses into gear and release more AAA titles that AREN'T rehashes! because 3rd party certainly won't be helping the wii-u

The only reason Wii-U is announced "doomed" or what ever is because the line up wasn't spectacular. monster hunter tri ultimate and be honest, that's it for the wii-u at the moment... at least for me.

I'm waiting for the cash, a bit of a price drop some new games.
In the end, it all depends on what games you can play on it.

A) Fans are stupid and B) Eternal Darkness won't sell shit. I don't think even Star Fox or F-Zero would sell anything.

Also people really need to stop this mentality of "well the next game will save it." It has some good games, but it has no flow of them, and certainly piss poor third party support. Once the Xbox 360 and PS3 got in gear, they were getting several top games every month. The Wii U at this rate maybe sees one decent game each month, if they're lucky, and it's almost always Nintendo. Then it gets outshined in multiplats by next gen competition so buying it seems like a waste of time.

I am on the same boat. With more First Party games by Nintendo, the Wii U could get a nice lift on sales.
Just have to wait for Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros. for Wii U and that will be a good start for that.

Now let's just hope Nintendo announced more First Party games in the E3 besides the other Zelda game, like another Metroid, Mario, even Star Fox or F-Zero could be nice too.

I have always been a fan or Nintendo games, sadly, not the consoles since two of my most beloved franchises are being developed in other consoles or PC, and that's a thing that surely bothers me.
If Nintendo had a decent Third Party support, I could play Silent Hill / RE without having to get a chopped and sometimes not on-pair-of-the-consoles port in the PC. Also, don'f forget that PC games by Third Party like Capcom or Konami do not get the DLCs from the console versions (Like RE 5 did).

doomed? yes After Smash Bros and "X" (if it even see's the light of day) and Mario Kart 8 are the only 3 noteworthy games left....my guess is that they will port Dark Moon or New Yoshi's Island to Wii-U and forget completely about the 3DS (like what they did with RE: Revelations) ...Nintendo likes to use their handheld as a soak test I've seen and when the game sells well they port it to the Wii-U.
