Anybody tried to update to the latest Wii U firmware while having the hombrew channel and CIOS installed on their vWii? The only info Nintendo gave us is: Further improvements to overall system stability and software compatibility

I'm on 4.0.3 and vWii is unaffected :P But you might want to hear what others say about it just to make sure.

Edit: Okay, I didn't even realize this was the newest...d'oh!

So...how do I go about turning my console on without it automatically updating? I'm pretty sure I disabled auto updating.... My guess would be to disconnect my router temporarily.

No wait, I did turn it on this evening, but didn't prompt me for an update.

Unless a Dragon Quest X update was coming that required a revision to the IOS to make certain things work, it's pretty likely that it's a vulnerability patch. Whether it's a vulnerability that was publicly disclosed or discovered is irrelevant.

Okay, I know which cable is for the router, I just unplug it, turn on the Wii U and it'll tell me it can't connect, so from there I just disable the internet/WiFi for the Wii U in the internet settings, viola. Oddly enough, when I booted it up yesterday evening, I didn't even see the prompt or the message reminding me there was an update. I don't have a LAN adapter so I have to temporarily unplug an Ethernet cable.

and you made that up, because ... ?
The timing is almost too perfect with the announcement.

They added USB keyboard support from the notes I saw.

One more thing you dont need the gamepad for now, text entry.

Still need it for the eshop and system settigs, but this makes typing way more convenient.

that's what i have the ethernet cable plugs into the lan adapter which plugs into one of the U's USB ports. you simply pull it out

Yeah, I couldn't avoid it, I unplugged the cable for the router (Google Fiber's) and the damn thing still updated much to my chagrin. The update doesn't make sense since it only updates an IOS for a game that's not even in the US. Shit, balls, damn and crap. At least it was super quick, like, less than a minute.

Nintendo found out before the hacking scene did that IOS59 was the backdoor needed for full WiiU-mode hax, and wanted to patch it before the Bad Mans could use it.
No joke, that was the one modified to allow vWii to play on gamepad screen, right? I received a few private messages saying an ios was the key, was it ios59? I think I told a few people about those whispers. It was definitely an ios from vWii side.

And it would seem many people had a forced-update, including people like Maxternal. Ugh. I'm sure there will be a way to downgrade someday...
