Hardware 3DS battery accesory suggestions/recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Cosmic Black 3DS and I'm looking for the best way to extend my battery life. I personally don't really mind the shorter battery life of the 3DS compared to it's predecessors, but longer playtime is always a good thing. Some things I'm looking for are:

-Preferably detachable, not a replacement battery. I'm trying not to void my warranty in case something goes wrong
-Something that won't make it bulky, I want to keep my 3DS how it looks generally
-Matches my Cosmic Black 3DS.

If anyone knows of such accessories that meets my expectation, please share

I'm also looking for this ... the only thing I've seen for 3DS XL is 120$ and is quite bulky :S

You won't void any warranties doing this, the battery is a user-replaceable part as it is. If you need to get it serviced for warranty you throw the original battery and cover back in.

Edit - otherwise, there's a Nyko battery that attaches on as a grip to the console as an external battery extension. I really do not like it.

Otherwise I'd say look into a rechargeable USB battery and a USB 3DS charging cable.

The weight actually made the 3DS much more comfortable to hold in my opinion.

I like my devices to have a bit of weight to them (not so much when they're in my pocket as when I am holding it), and the thickness does help reduce any cramping when you have gorilla hands like me lol.

I have gorilla hands as well length wise so it kinda sucked using the old 3DS. Totally agree with you.

LOL. Uhhhhh. Comparison for me... I can reach across 9 piano keys with ease, ten if I'm lucky on that day. Which is a fairly long length. Going a bit off subject, but OP. That's the best solution for you, seriously.

I'm not very experienced with pianos so I can't easily relate to that lol, but I'll take your word for it

Back on topic, right, OP I too agree this is probably going to be your best bet other than, like I said, a rechargeable USB battery and a USB 3DS charging cable. Replacing the stock battery is 4 screws on the battery door and the old battery slides out, then this new one pops in and it has the four screws preinstalled in it. Protip with it, tighten the two outer ones all the way but leave the two inner ones pretty loose if you get the PowerPak+. If you tighten the two inner ones too hard it makes the Supercard DSTWO pretty hard to get out in my experience. Other cards that aren't as thick don't tend to run into this issue though.

Edit - and if you're just using official 3/DS cartridges you won't run into that issue.

I know its not what you want, but i got this extended 5000mAh akkupack as a replacement for the 1300mAh that came with my 3DS:

Comparing the Nintendo one with this, I got the following values:
Original Nintendo 3DS battery (1300mAh): 4h 13min (1.00x)
C&S 5000mAh battery: 16h 0min (3.79x)

Testing environment:
Fully charged and brand new batteries (original 1300mAh and the 5000mAh one)
Game: Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS
Loop: Intro
Brightness: Level 5, No saving mode power-saving
Volume: off
WLAN: off

Battery itself makes it a little thicker by about 8-9mm. My hands cramp less now, as its easier to hold. its kinda ugly though (red 3DS with grey cover... but not that visible anyway (bottom!)). plastic cover is alright, feels a bit cheap unfortunately, but seems to hold just fine though. Nykon one looks to fit a bit better in ones hand though, as it doesnt have another edge. If you need more info on this, im happy to provide some pictures.
Also, this battery doesnt get warm or hot like some of those addons thingies do (like speedlinks JET addon).

Are there any batteries that fit flush in the 3DS without the need for custom backing that improve battery life? I know you can't actually get a larger battery to fit in that space, but I'm curious if anyone has tested replacement batteries and found one that lasts longer than the stock Nintendo one. Seems unlikely, but I really need something that works with a grip since I can't play my 3DS usually without using one as my hands hurt. I already have the Nyko powerpak, but I can't use any grips with it.

I have another idea for you though:
There are plenty of cheap powerbanks in various sizes available, which are basically small battery backs with usb ports, allowing you to charge anything from smartphones to handhelds, including your 3DS.
You could get one of them to extend your battery life on the way without having to switch batteries or carrying a thicker 3DS around.

Dunno... works for me:
Lengthy cable (1-1.5m, depending on your size) from my pockets to the 3DS work just fine, but if that isn't for you, i dunno what else to to suggest.

It sure is a pity that the 3DS is so ugly to hold in your hands. Even worse than the PS controllers (1 through 3 at least)... Main reason I didnt progress that far in Bravely Default... Well, if you find something that works for you, pls tell me, as I will also need it^^

The thicker battery pack works, but just isnt perfect enough... I need a grip... kind like this:

Yeah, a bit of a risk paying extra for a battery grip. If the grip is uncomfortable tht sucks even if the battery works. If the battery sucks, but its comfortable that also stinks.

I'm investigating the 5000mAh batteries and wondering if they would still be able to fit in grips, I haven't found any forum posts indicating someone has used one with a grip. Even if it fits, it'll still be a bit higher than the 3DS would be without it so it still might not be comfortable. I wish I could find one of the CTA power grips, but no one seems to have one.

I ordered the Hori MK7 wheel as that seemed like the best fit for my needs. I'll just deal with the battery when on the go. I may order a new replacement battery (1300mAh) just to have a fresh one. I bought my 3DS used so I'm not sure if the battery is any worse than a newer one. I've never timed it.
