Friends of the Wii Modding World,

I can't for the life of me to get GameCube backups to work at all. These backups come from games either I own or my neighbor. I bought my 5 year old son a Wii for Christmas. I bought it shortly before Thanksgiving. I soft modded it. I copied all my Wii Games and GameCube games to a spare USB 500 Gig hard drive. I purchased a 16 Gig SD card, because every time I tried to play the GameCube games USB Loader GX and WiiFLOW told me they needed more space then my 2 Gig SD card offered to dump the GC games too. I've updated both Devolution and Dios Mios. I've tried different video setting. Everything.
I've tried using IOS 222, IOS 249, and IOS 250 with both USB Loader GX and WiiFLOW. I now have the GameCubes on the SD card, with 4 Gigs or free space, to dump them with just incase.

I've even tried different video mode settings. All I get is a black screen that sits there forever. Then I have to reset the Wii.

What information do you all need from me to help me out? I'll get it for you. Thanks a ton.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Riley

P.S. Please forgive if I've posted this in the wrong area of the forum.

Well, my son wanted Netflix and Youtube Channels, so I installed them. He watches Sonic and Mario videos on both. When I started the Netflix Channel install the system told me I needed a System Update and proceed to install and update the Wii. I freaked out, because I already had Wii 4.3U and figured that was the highest update. However it updated and now my Wii backups won't run either. However my SuperNES, NES, Atari, N64, PS1, and Sega emulators run flawlessly. Except for the SEGA CD in the Sega emulator, but I can live with that for now I think. I figure if I fix the GameCube and Wii backup problems the SEGA CD problem would be fixed too. Anyway, my brother, suggested I run SysCheck and display the info here. So, here it is in all it's glory.

Any ideas why I can't play my GameCube or the Wii Games backups anymore?

Thanks,

Friends,

I found a thread similar to this on another site talking about the Wii Backups not working. Said something about using IOS249 Base 56 and IOS250 Base 57. To use cIOSX d2x and ModMII for Windows to install, and I've fixed the Wii Games. Hopefully it has secretly fixed the GameCube games too, but I don't know. I can't test it right now either, because I have to be at work early in the morning and it is already 12:14 AM Central Time here. I'm going to bed.

Thanks,

Riley

* Wii games work with IOS
* Wii games backup : you need a patched IOS (cIOS, to enable SD or USB instead of disc reading)

* Gamecube games work with MIOS
* Gamecube game backup : you need a patched MIOS (to enable SD or USB instead of disc reading)

there are different type of MIOS:

MIOS v10: by Nintendo (the one you currently have!), play retail games disc from disc channel or loaders
cMIOS : by Wiigator. Play burned disc from disc channel or loaders
DIOS MIOS: by Crediar. Play backup ISO from USB only
DIOS MIOS Lite: by Crediar. Play backuo ISO from SD card only.

These 4 method use the "gamecube mode" of the console and require a specific "MIOS" version. There's only one "MIOS" slot on your console, as you can see on your syscheck report. Installing a new MIOS will replace the one you currently have.

There are another method to launch GameCube games : Using Wii mode! (instead of GameCube mode).
- Devolution
- Nintendont

These two loaders require the official IOS58

which media do you want to play ?
retail Disc ? burned disc? ISO backups?

I don't know the differences between the 3 cMIOS you listed.

I recommend using either :
- Devolution + ISO on SD or USB ()
- DIOS MIOS Lite 2.10 + ISO on SD
you can have both DIOS MIOS Lite and devolution installed and working at the same time, devolution use IOS58, and DML uses the MIOS Slot.

For details on what's working/possible on each loaders:

Cyan and others,

Thanks so much for everyone's help. First thing, I did for Gamecube backups was install, WaninKoko cMIOS-v4 rev5, because I use USB LOADER GX as my primary backup launcher, since WiiFLOW (Which I love!) informed me the other day, that Gamecube Backup was disabled (Not sure the actual error, but I write it down and Google it tomorrow since I'm off). It gave me the error message: Gamecube Backup Loader v1.1 Error: Could not read disk ID! (ret = 1). Then I decided, well since, Cyan, speaks highly of the Devolution and DIOS MIOS Lite, and I have my backups on the SD card, I'll use DIOS MIOS Lite, so my son won't haven't to use my retail Gamecube disk every time he wants to play the games. Then I got a huge DIOS MIOS logo with this error: al error app_entry is not within the apploader are. I Googled the error, and the info I got basically said I had the names of the games incorrect. I used DMToolbox.exe v0.3 by Crediar to create my ISO files of the GameCube games.

Hello,
post here similar problem. yesterday i've update my softmod wii (4.1E) using ModMi.

All fine, then i reinstall DIOS MIOS Lite WAD: by Crediar. To play backuo ISO from SD card only.
Insert an original GC disc in my drive, but now I obtain always black screen on boot.

Can give me some hints to resolve this issue?

Thank you, good year,
m.

black screen with DML? it's usually a problem with DM (and ISO on USB drives).

Which version of DML did you install? 2.10?
Which version/revision of the loader did you use?
Verify your video settings in the loader, best choice is "AUTO" to let DML choose the video mode based on the game and console's region.

rileyil:
If you see the logo it's a good sign (it means you correctly installed it).
This error means that DML didn't find where the game "starts" in the ISO.
Maybe try to copy the full, unmodified ISO, on SD card instead (use the "raw" option in DMToolbox).

Always start by using raw option to see if the game is working.
Then, if you need space, you can use the "compress" option. if compress doesn't work (like the error you have), try compress+align (it will take a little more space on your SD card).
You can also try the FST (extracted file system) which will extract all the ISO's file to your SD card.

Cyan and Wii Modding Friends,

So on December 31st, 2013, before I went to work, I did another SysCheck. I'll post it below. I extracted all my Gamecube ISO's today with Gamecube ISO Tool (Created by the crew that does the WiiBackUpMGR program) in the DiscEX format. It gave me the choice between DiscEX or GCReEX. I have never heard of GCReEX format. So, I used DiscEX format. I got the same error: al error app_entry is not within the apploader are, with the giant DIOS MIOS logo in the background. I also downloaded FTSFix.EXE as suggested by Cyan. So, tonight I will use it to create my ISO's of my GameCube games. I have to work tomorrow evening, from noon until 9:00 PM Central US time, so I won't be able to test anything else until Friday. My son was actually excited when he saw the Gamecube DIOS MOIS logo and told me to give it time, it would boot up. LOL! Bless his 5 year old heart, he doesn't totally understand. Anyway, I will keep you all posted on my progress.

FSTfix.exe is something different.
I think it's used to reorder files correctly in the ISO. (but I never used it, nor really checked what it was used for, so maybe I'm wrong here).

the "FST" I mentioned is an option in DMToolbox which extract the game files from the ISO to your HDD or SD. You end up with multiple files and folders instead of a single .iso file.

Cyan,

Using DMToolBox now to Extract the ISO files. I have a just in case crap happens folder on my TeraByte Internal PC hard drive called SD. I'm extracting the the games there to I:\sd\games\. I've noticed there is a directory called root. Would those files go in SD:// or SD://games/ or would they stay in the root directory sd://games/root/ on my actual SD card?

Cyan,

Never got it to work with DMToolBox extraction of the ISO. However I'm gonna try DiscEX right now to extract/dump the ISO. This morning I got fatal error: apploader size is zero! at the DIOS MIOS logo screen. So I figure the error is somewhere in how I'm extracting/dumping the ISO files.

a7mag3ddon: I learned about 2 months ago, when I started it was easier to purchase say a 16 or 32 Gig SD card, and leave my apps and GameCube games on it. I formatted the 500 USB Gig drive to FAT32 using HP USB Formatting Tool (100% free from HP and automatically 32K FAT32 Format). Then I've converted the Wii Games I have to WBFS files on the drive. Also download SysCheck and post that. That will allow Cyan or myself to help you. The best thing I ever did I think as far as the Wii Modding goes was to download and install ModMii for Windows. Use Classic mode instead of GUI and get your correct IOS and cMIOS files.

Thanks,

Riley

DMToolbox are used to automate the installation and extracting process to prevent users to copy the games or files into the wrong folders !
let the program write games to your REAL SD card, and it will go to the correct place.

ISO format:
SD:\games\Zelda Wind Waker\game.iso

FST format:
SD:\games\Zelda Wind Waker\sys\main.dol etc.

I tried running syscheck 1.6.2, when its looking for vulnerabilites it gets to the end and crashes back to BootMii leaving just a few lines in the CSV file..

Code:

Found 5 IOS Stubs on this console

Can i aslo just check, you said to put games in SD:\games\Zelda Wind Waker\game.iso

but several tutorials say games\GAMEID\game.iso and that is what DMtoolbox gives you.

If you don't have access to ModMii for Windows and you have a WAD Manager to install WAD files from SD://wad/, I have the WAD files and when I get home I'll upload them to my Google Drive and send the link to you.

This should correct any Wii game backup errors. Then you and I can focus on fixing our Gamecube back errors together.

Cyan: I have the smae problem as a7mag3ddon when DMToolBox extracted the ISO files. I am able to play the retail disc fine and probably backups, but I don't know because I don't have DVD-R. I only have DVD+R at this time. I'm about to send you my ISO's and let you extract them. LOL! It's driving me crazy. My son play Sonic Adventures DX just fine last night using my retail disc with DIOS MIOS. I can't find my Super Mario Sunshine disc right now (I think he had and lost it). That's the game he wanted to play. We've also got a place in town here that's called Retro Game Exchange, they sell Gamecube memory cards still new in the box. I'm going Friday to pickup a few things there, so I'll pick up one of those as well. I might have to pickup another Super Mario Sunshine.

Thanks,

Riley

P.S. Cyan: If you want to extract my ISO files for me, let me know. We can work out the details to get them to you.
