I know its already been said but will say it anyone.. You know the gateway blue card is a clone of another right? Everyone is copying everyone. Even the exploit gateway uses is copied. The only thing gateway have really done themselves is make firmware (using others information) and make the red card.

As someone with more than 15 years of experience in the flash card/backup unit business: it's a clone, it's crap. Period. That's how it has been since the dawn of the copiers/flash cards, especially that early in the game. Later clones might surpass what's available now, but the Gateway team has a couple of months head start, as long as they are around (and they pay their programmer/hacker well) the others will very likely just copy what they push out.

Sigh. I'm pretty conflicted because the 3dslink is USD$46 where I'm at, which is quite a huge bit cheaper than the Gateway. But I really would rather have a Gateway since it seems more reliable.

A funny question though. If the 3dslink and the R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe are made by the same team and the 3dslink is cheaper, isn't it a good idea to get the 3dslink instead of the Deluxe? If 3dslink decides not to update we can use the Deluxe's update.

Oh well I shall wait for the Gateway price drop

AFAIK, Gateway's implementation was the first released to the public. There was some fairly vague info about the exploit vector on 3dbrew, and maybe some chatter in #3dsdev, but few concrete details. They took that and re-created the exploit independently (since then the same has been done by a few others e.g. smealum). But I wouldn't say the exploit was "copied" from what I know.

Yeah I know what you're saying. Perhaps cheap knock-off wasn't the appropriate choice of words.

But let's be rational guys, it's only a matter of time before gateway team implements anti-clone measures into the next firmware update. When you've got dat clone and you want emuNAND so bad, your probably going to end up with a brick.

Let's take the true blue dongle for the PS3 as an example. Their anti-piracy measures claimed to erase your PS3 HDD if the firmware detected it was running a clone. Lets hope gateway does not take such a brute force approach.

Seriously people who cares.....they are clones....nothing wrong with that but until one of these groups pushes the bar higher than Gateway they serve little purpose other than to offer a cheaper alternative....doesn't mean they are evil, child stalking serial killers or anything....some clone devices I have owned worked just fine....I would expect Gateway to say don't buy it or your face might melt off....but people in this forum should know better. All these companies need sales to fund their dev/hack teams....so if r4 makes a little money off a Gateay clone and acutally does something with the money to further the cause I am ok with that....what amazes me is I just wouldn't think the market is big enough for multiple players until someone cracks FW 5.x/6.x but maybe there are more people out there sitting on old firmware waiting for something cheaper than Gateway than I suspected.

look how clean and solid that PCB looks. Looks like diamond or laser cut PCB and everything is laid out niceley and the blue varnish looks good. Looks like the parts were placed well and doesn't have fingerprints all over the place (not speaking of Gateway but I have had DS carts that I opened that had big finger prints inside before, such as in M3i Zero for DS). R4i Gold sticker and case look a bit nicer than the gateway to me.

I'm out a gateway since I had to send it back. I'm seriously thinking about buying this but want to find the right price. In bulk of 10 pack they are $37.00 each and the lowest price I have found online for one is $56.90 (or maybe $59.95 I'm not sure what it was I settled on). Still 60 bucks isn't real bad but we can see where the price is trending to in the future.

R4 kit is cool because you know you get an R4 DS cart along with it so the whole package is R4 all the way through. Although I am assuming that this is not the original R4 team but at least someone took over the name and put out good quality clones.

Non spring loaded SD card slot in the 3DS cart? That sucks. I like spring load. Non spring loaded seems el cheapo. But I guess one could desolder what is there and solder a new one in. Whether or not it will still fit in the case is the question though. I like that the gateway is spring loaded but that is about the only thing I like about it.
