I recently bought a Gateway 3DS second-hand. (I know, scary stuff!) It arrived today, and I've had no time yet to test it.
But the box felt a bit... flimsy, so now I want to make sure I got the real deal. Can any of you guys help me with this?
Please check out the photos and try to determine from that if this is the real deal or perhaps some knock-off.

Thanks!

What you expect from non-serious company? It's not Apple/Samsung. Just few boyz doing some magic.
You're right. A flimsy box is definitely not unheard of. But it was still enough to make me at least question it. Better safe than sorry.

Looks real enough to me.
Great! Can I maybe also get a second opinion from someone else?

Doubt they will give u superb quality package, even big companies have shitty product boxes. Main thing is the item itself, not the box ;)

i dont own a gateway, but i had seen pictures of it around gbatemp, especially on reviews, if you can open the cart, (so you can see the chip inside) and compare it to some pictures in gba temp you will get sure

but i didnt heard anything about "1:1 clones" of gateway...

and i dont know if you open the cart you will be able to close it again...

i got my Gateway on saturday, packaging is same as yours.

Only difference is my blue card has "X-B" written on red PCB - and the red card is completely broken.

I would advise you to check it for functionality

Thanks. But I don't think I am paranoid enough to open it.

I'll check for that right when I get home.

The Gateway team had two brands of packaging. The first packaging schema was a plastic box thing. The newer revision (the one you own) is the second revision, which came with a tray to hold the cartridge. The first model's box needed a quick assembly thing as it came completely flat. Your piece is as real as real gets. :)

That's even more reassuring.
Is there any difference between all these revisions besides the packaging?

It's just packaging. As of a few weeks ago, I had both revisions. It's just a packaging thing. The units don't do anything different. :)

I think there's a difference with the microSD slot.
Devin's review (or the first batch) said it was spring-loaded while he new batch isn't.
Maybe there are other hardware changes.

I know there are some clones popping up, but I don't think there are any direct "fake" cards yet. I put the word "yet" in there because Gateway can easily become the next R4, and get sued and die off, but another team can pick up their hardware and make 1.1 clones (almost 99% similar hardware, slightly different chip somewhere) and redistribute it as the original.
Being that Gateway is the first 3DS flashcard and we already got a DMCA notice about the files for it on filetrip, it seems like they already heading down that road.

Huh. That's weird. I had the newer packaged one and it was spring loaded. That's interesting.

He did get it second hand, there is a possibility the person who sold to him bought another card, like that one more and shipped this one in the box he had laying around.

Definitely, either that or my reseller may have mix and matched units and packaging. The plot thickens....

They are flashcards coming from shady people in shady places, anything is possible. Either way, it looks like a legit card and I don't think anyone has made 1.1 clones just yet.

Yeah, the OP's unit is definitely a legitimate unit, as what I had matched what he posted. And yeah, the market is a sketchy sketchy place.
