I am using a 2DS, have tried multiple cards and installations, followed every start guide I can find, and this will only successfully play DS roms. I can play mere seconds of a GBA or SNES rom before the system freezes or Guru reports an error. Is it possible that I have a defective card?

I am using a 2ds, FW 6.3.0-12U tried a 4gb PNY SDHC, and a 16gb sdhc. For what its worth, I also tried this card in my DS Lite... DS roms only work, both systems exhibit the same behavior.

Just bought this from rhs days ago and I regret this....anyone have any suggestions?

Forgot to add, used card FW 1.23, EOS 1.11

It could also be that you are using an older version of the GBA or SNES emulators. Be sure to check that you are using the latest emulator, or even the ones that are still being actively developed.

Try searching for ReGBA, which is currently the active TempGBA, which is based on DSTWO GBA but with better support. Also look for CATSFC, which is a good SNES emulator for the DS2.

Both of these emulators are endorsed by Team Supercard, and can be found on their DS2 Plugins page. DSTWO Plugins

I've used them both, and they both work well. I also compile them from source whenever there's an update, so I can test them all the time.

If you get the latest versions and still they give Guru Meditation errors, see about writing down the errors and posting them here. It will help the developers of the emulators figure out what's wrong, and see if it is something with their emulators, or if it is a defective DS2.

I can't seem to find a ReGBA binary, and I don't have time to set up a dev environment to compile it. I tested these roms with TempGba 1.45, and CATSFC 1.36.1.
Oddly enough, TempGBA seems to be more reliable at giving errors, where CATSFC simply freezes (without a log file that I can find).
Metroid Fusion - Resulted in System Freeze
Metroid Zero Mission - See err 1
Super Mario Advance 4 - See pic 2

CATSFC seems to freeze after showing the Nintendo copyright, I was able to see the Super Metroid start screen for about half a second before freezing by increasing cpu speed (option 5)
I tried:
Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Mario All Stars.

I should note that sound in CATSFC seems very glitchy, it may be what is causing the problems. The mute setting doesn't seem to bypass sound as the same behavoir persists.

For the DS2, the ReGBA binary is tempGBA.plg. ReGBA is actually just a placeholder for GBA emulators for the DSTwo and a few other handhelds. Look here for details: Github - ReGBA. I compile it for every update.

Setting up a Dev Environment is difficult, I agree. You even need to do a few special tweaks to it to make it compile TempGBA and CATSFC. At least your providing information for the devs. :)

>A feature doesn't work on the flashcard
>Blames the entire flashcard
>Probably got a faulty flashcard
>Still blames the entire flashcard

And explain to me what is wrong with that logic? You obviously didn't read my post, I mentioned that it could be faulty.....
what exactly are you contributing to this thread again????

''dstwo, the biggest disappointment ever''
Really dude? You got a faulty card and you're blaming the entire company? So if I got a bad DS console, would I blame Nintendo as well?

Sounds like a fake, though i doubt it due to many people recommending that shop. I highly suggest you immediately call them and have it replaced i think it's just faulty, which is very unfortunate seeing as you where anticipating it. Though, try to re-download and re-install the firmware, patch, and OS first. The GBA emulators are supposed to work seamlessly out of the box (unless they simply do not work for 2DS.) so the fact of the matter is, your dstwo or (2DS) is either fake, faulty, or not installed correctly. (I think nintendo's updates my brick it too but not sure.)

i find emulation is never 100% accurate. you should try to play on real hardware, maybe track down an Ez-Flash IV and a GBA SP AGS-101,

failing that, use a device that has better GBA emulation. PSP-2000, GCW-Zero, Dingoo A330, iPhone, iPad, Android device, pretty much any modern system that has any kind of decent processing power and a dedicated community.

Have you ever heard of a single case of a counterfeit DSTWO? I've been here for quite a while, have owned a DSTWO for years, and have never once heard of a fake.

The chances of the card being faulty are slim too, I would say, or else you'd probably have issues with other things like loading DS roms. My money is on your SD card having issues that could be solved with a format, having a shit SD card, or having happens to just get buggy revision(s) of your emulator(s).

I considered a fake as well, but, rhs seems to sell only legit stuff. I think I may contact them Monday about a replacement.

l also tried the Panasonic SD format, but this doesn't seem to help either.

Thanks for the suggestions guys... minus the one overly attached fanboy :)

You're welcome, next time try to use the search bar, because no one is complete <snip> enough to buy a shitty microSD card and not format it properly, then makes these kinds of threads.

Yes you're right i didn't take into account the fact that the SD card could be the problem, I knew I was forgetting something.
Also i have heard of faulty DS2's but never heard of any fakes, however i know they're likely out there somewhere.

Uh...yeah. Who else are you going to blame? The store? No. You blame the manufacturer.

Tons of people have been encountering issues with the search bar. If I recall, even Another World said that it was shit.

followed by brand new clean files or did you drop back on the same files, the files that could be corrupted?

oddly enough, everyone is trying to debug the ds2 and not the roms. have you verified your roms against a known goodset listing? they could be corrupted. have you also made sure the games you are trying to play are supported by the emu? as i've no idea what games you are running, it could be as simple as an unsupported game is always tested 1st and repeatedly causing corruption issues. have you tried all of the scds2 exclusive features? do any of the features, emulators, etc, which are known to use the on-board cpu/ram work? is it possible that the cards cpu/ram is faulting - sure, but until you fully debug it we will never know.

you said that ds games are working, so you have a few thousands things you can play and that isn't even counting hundreds of homebrew games, emulators, applications, demos, or ds hacks, translations, and level mods. i fail to see how that makes the card the biggest disappointment ever. if you feel that you would like the title of the thread changes, let me know, and i'll take care of that for you.

I downloaded new files each time I put them on the SD card, I also considered that perhaps the files were corrupt, but because I downloaded them several times, I would think that at least one set would be ok.
I tried several formatting iterations, including windows default (I know, not recommended, but I had tried everything by this point). I also tried the Panasonic formatter, using both quick and rewrite options several times.
I tried multiple SD cards, including non-hc cards.

The rom files were from *SNIP*, I have tried about 15 different rom files: DS, snes, and gba. The DS roms always run fine, but, as the *ds has native support for these, this is a moot point.

I tried 2 different SNES emulators: CATSFC, NDSSFC and 2 different GBA emulators: TempGBA, and NDSGBA. Unfortunately, no roms would run more than a maximum of 3 seconds, this includes changing CPU speeds and bios (for GBA).... This was the same situation for both the 2ds and DS lite. (I thought that maybe there was a hardware conflict between the different versions of the 3ds/2ds/etc).

Here is a list of a few roms I tried multiple times:
Super Mario World (SMC)
Super Metroid
Zelda (SMC)
Yoshi's Island (SMC & DS)
Mario All Stars
SMA 1, 2, 3, 4

Regarding the thread title, my point here was not to implicate the entire sc company, but rather to describe my experience with the card, and to me, it has indeed been a big disappointment (maybe I have read too much hype?). I wanted to see if anyone else had similar experience with the card and could offer sound advice. You can change the thread title to something more appropriate since it is clearly causing some members here loss of sleep at night. If you have any more insight to diagnostics that I have not considered, I would appreciate the advice.

If someone knows of a diagnostic app for the scds2, I think this might be what I am looking for as my own search did not reveal anything. In the meantime, I am just going to assume this card to be DOA and contact rhs on Monday.
