this may have been mentioned before and if so then feel free to lock

I've had the game a total of 24 hours downloaded fresh from the e-shop.
and during battle when you have the choice of using 3D, i've noticed a considerable amount of framerate drop.
does this occur on the cartridge version? or is it possibly because I'm using a 16GB SDHC? or is it just the game having issues rendering?
open discussion.

I have a physical copy and it does the same thing. Sometimes it will even lag during battles when 3D is shut off as well.

I noticed it'll only do it when you have the two Pokémon shown by the front with the split in the middle of the screen.

Also, for double, triple and horde battles, the 3D is completely disabled. I'll put that on the account of Game Freak not being used to 3D games. No, Colosseum and the likes aren't from Game Freak, before someone tries to be smart.

yeah I noticed that too which is odd, I guess the game is at it's highest limit for the system which saddens me, overall it's an awesome game. I understand why 3D isn't active during the overworld now.

also thanks for the responses, glad to know it's not just me!

Crazy that they released the game with such apparantly huge optimization problems.

Is it possible that it's just pushing the hardware to its limit? (Sorry, haven't played it so I don't know how good/bad the graphics are)

Doubt it. But I heard they had to rush it towards the end, so I assume it doesn't help. It's not really that bad but yeah, it's noticeable. Let's hope the next version fixes that.

The frame rate drops are the only disappointing part of the game for me. Like Osha said, that one camera angle where it shows the two opposing Pokemon next to each other always drops the frame rate until it changes to another angle. There are also other minor drops, but that one's the most frequent and noticeable. The 3D throughout the game's very hit and miss, so I leave it turned off. If you just flip between the Charizard and Mega Charizard X models in the Pokedex, you can see that the frame rate's lower when it's displaying Mega Charizard X.

I mean it doesn't decrease gameplay, it seems more like a graphics management issue. it will probably be fixed at some point. I want to say it drops nowhere lower than 20 fps, since the naked eye can't tell the difference between anything above 25 fps, and from experience in playing with frame rates that just seems like it's where it's at.

Instead of a smart-aleck remark, i'll just point you to this comparison site:
http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/

turn off the motion blur for the two balls.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

25 FPS!? Where did you get that idea?
As far as I hade experienced, the naked eyes can't see any difference above 60fps.
30fps is still playable but you can still see that 60fps is smoother.

For what it's worth, the third link (the amo.net one) provides a pretty good study at the end of the article. Air Force servicemen were able to see, and even identify, an aircraft in a dark room that was flashed on a wall for 1/220th of a second.

Yeah the brain work in a funny way. I mean 3D TV's with shutterglasses normally runs at 120mhz and we cant see that its blinking at 60fps per eye. but you can identify an aircraft you only get to see for 1/220th of a second!?
Anyway, No one can make me believe that 25 fps is the limit to our eyes cause the my eyes aint normal.

Anyway, pokemon X and Y looks in my opinion graphicaly far inferior to other 3ds games. Just think about it.. Zelda - Ocarina of time, Super mario 3d land, Mario Kart 7, Luigi's Mansion 2, Kingdom Hears, Monster Hunter 3 ultimate and many more games looks better and have more stable frame rates even with the 3D turned on. And most of these games uses the 3d in much better ways. Pokemon X and Y have like super low depth in the 3D and its almost strange how little depth there are to the actual pokemon in battle.
Im pretty sure that gamefreak hasn't been able to make a very optimized game-engine for X and Y. It's probably because they just started working with 3D and the 3DS.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to see a difference between 60 and 120FPS too but it depends on the game. I play Taiko at 60FPS but in some maps the notes are so stupidly fast it still feels like a low framerate. In a game where stuff doesn't move that much it wouldn't really be noticeable though.

They made this game for the 2S instead of the 3DS.
Hope they will fix this lag thing in a game update in the near future because is absurd a official Nintendo game can't bring its full potential on the console it was made for.
This game already is bad because they removed a lot of things from the old generations and put some estetic crap (the 3D cave is useless).

I don't think the framerate problems with 3D are because it was made for 2DS
I think that GF just took a HUGE project AND gave a final worldwide deadline to themselves, and it shows.
I mean, fully animated pokemon? that's crazy! there are well over 700 pokes and each of them moves in character and according to the attack you use
maybe Pokemon Z will show better optimization, since they'll have some more time to work on it

And Resident Evil. Best graphics on 3DS.
