Let's skip the whole there's no point reply, multi rom should be just around the corner since a menu will be released with GW 2.0. No sense in buying a 32GB micro SD if I want to future proof.

Some people received confirmation back from Gateway team that the limitation was 32GB, but it's unclear if they specified they would just format the 64GB SDXC card with FAT32.

Can anyone with 100% certainty confirm this works because they are using one this way, it's possible the Gateway could still have a limitation with 32GB.

Let's not make this a why do you need more than 1 rom per SD card debate please.

That's stupid, how could someone know that if it's not possible to view the content of the microSD within the GW unless it contains an image of a ROM. Images don't have a regular formats like FAT32 or NTFS.

Your mostly wasting much of the space on a 64GB microSDXC. The only point in people getting a 64GB microSDXC at this point in time is that those people believe they are going to get a multi-rom game manager for the red card within a few years.

You need at a minimum of 8GB if you don't plan to use the rom trimmer any time soon. Most roms only max out at 4GB in size and that is with the firmware update in some cases.

The other reason is that your not going to be dragging and dropping the rom onto the microSD, your going to be writing the rom as a image file to the microSD. This destroys any formatting you have on the microSD.
I already posted that in the other thread.

It likely wont work period. SDXC is not SDHC. It will be incompatible regardless of formatting.

There's no way to know until it happens. Right now you have to format the MicroSD as a raw 3DS ROM format anyway, so it wouldn't be in FAT32.

The only difference between SD, SDHC, and SDXC is the firmware. That's why the Wii, for example, originally didn't work with SDHC but a simple firmware update fixed that. So even if the Gateway only has a MicroSDHC reader, they might be able to patch that if/when a multi-ROM loader is coded.

SDHC and SDXC are more similar than SDHC and SD.
SDXC just using more address bits afaik and new filesystem by default.

Now that that Gateway did the logical thing and officially announed multiriom in their 2.0 FAQ, SDXC support is relevant.

Wrong.

SDXC is exactly the same as SDHC except pre-formatted with a different file system in software.

Devices that are ratified to work with SDXC mean that they support the software default formatting exFAT. Devices supporting SDHC will support SDXC cards no problem as long as formatted with NTFS/FAT32, the only potential problem is if the device is hard coded to have a capacity limit. Much like the PSP for example where it's firmware was only designed to be able to address 32GB cards maximum. This is purely a software limitation though.

The difference between SDHC and SD cards on the other hand is more than just software and it's very common for devices that work with SD cards to not work with SDHC.

All the cards should work fine with gateway (I used a realy old 2GB card, and an old 8GB kigston class 4 and they worked fine)
If a card don't works it's maybe because you have a fake or damaged card.

Do you realise all of your preaching has nothing to do with the post you quoted?

No one buys Micro SDs for Video Cameras. You normally buy normal size SDs

microsd with adapter is basically the same thing, but yeah we usually buy a normal sized sd for video cameras than a microsd and adapter...

I have a 64GB MicroSD for my phone...

If you guys really want me to try it I can try it, but I'm pretty sure it will work.

LOL I won't work because Gateway doesn't read PC formats hosting regular files at the moment; it only reads raw images. You can, however, test a ROM image and see if it boots on the 3DS.

Uh, what?

The file system has nothing to do with it. I format my SDXC cards as FAT32, same as my SDHC ones. It's a firmware in the card reader that affects whether or not it will work. See my post above about the Wii.

No, it's the hardware of the card reader the one that affects its function. Also, reread the title of the thread:

No, it's not the hardware.

The difference between SD, SDHC, and SDXC is just firmware in the reader. That's why the Wii was not able to read SDHC when it was released, but through a system menu update Nintendo added that ability.
