Ubisoft just announced that the current and next-gen hotly anticipated title Watch Dogs has been delayed until Spring 2014.

Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.
We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.
We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

Lots of games get delayed, but what happens when the game you have preordered comes bundled at launch with your next-gen console?

Here's an Official response to Kotaku's Jason Schreier:

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo understand the importance of releasing games of the very highest quality for their consoles. Our partnership with Sony remains strong and we will have more details to share about the specific benefits of this partnership for PlayStation customers at a later date.
We hope that players who have pre-ordered the game will still look forward to playing it in Spring 2014, and that the extra polish and quality we’ll be able to add to the game will ensure a fantastic gaming experience.

This is bad news for gamers who preordered the bundle. If you have the bundle preordered you should contact your retailer for an update.

Dude... And here I was waiting to finish this until Dark Souls 2 appeared. Now that plan is flushed down the toiled. Thank you, Ubisoft! Thank you so much! (Oh well, back to waiting for the next Wolf Among Us episode...)

There is already talk that the reason behind this is GTAV which makes sense to me.
Why would they agree to a bundle like a month ago if they knew the game wouldn't be in a releasable state?
This stinks of a marketing decision but now what happens to people who preordered the bundle like myself? Do we get a download code when the game is out? Do we get AC Blag Flag instead? Personally I'd rather have Killzone so I guess we'll have to wait on word from Sony and the retailers as Ubi aren't giving any worthy repsonses right now!

If they are delaying because they are worried about sales due to the big releases such as GTA5 and Pokemon then it will backfire. Next year there are ALOT of games that look good announced for release in spring and i think it will get lost in the sea somewhere. The game looks good right now and despite GTA 5 being a good game, im longing for something different, Watch dogs was giving us a new spin on the sandbox style game and i for one was really excited to play it. Next year i wont be, there are alot of games im looking forward to next year and im sure a ton more will get announced with the new consoles. I dont buy that its because the game needs to polish up, its the game developers language for a government's "training excersise"

Luckily I've got the Killzone bundle pre-ordered, but this sucks for the people who pre-ordered the Watch_Dogs bundle. I was looking forward to buying the game possibly even this year, but looks like it'll have to wait.

I actually preordered Watch_Dogs so this is kinda disappointing. But if it gives them time to polish it, fine by me.

I think this might be because it is a new IP and this holiday season is pretty much locked off by tons of franchise stuff. Either way polishing or holding back to release at a better time, are both good things =w=

*I jest, I jest... but it would be pretty damn cool.
It can barely run on current-gen consoles let alone the Vita.
