Hacking Updating Animal Crossing

Hey guys,

Ive recently bought Animal Crossing for my european 3DS.
Now, It needs an update to be able to get online, but to update it, it needs the newest firmware version.
A friend said we could update it on his updated 3DS using my SD Card, would that work or wouldnt I be able to play the game anymore then?

if there was a way to get past this that i knew about a few months ago i would have been very happy.. haha.. i assumed i had to update to the latest firmware.
maybe it is possible to copy the update file form someone else to your sd card, but i doubt it.

So it’s not possible to go online without the latest firmware... RachelB provided wrong info here.
I was thinking of getting ACNL too, but since it is no possible to go online on 4.5 and use Gateway, there is no point in doing so.

If I try to download the AC update it says I need a newer firmware, which I cant install because it would break my gateway card.

I suppose that update is stored locally, not overwriting any data on your cartridge. So there is nothing you can do.

i have one 3ds euro 6.2 and one 3ds euro 4.5 both with AC, and im able to go online !! ... with both

Maybe the OP is mixing 4.5 update via the ACNL cartridge with latest firmware update via the internet. You should be safe to update to 4.5 with ACNL cartridge. Which firmware do you have, turbeauke? Can you actually run the game?

There is an option to update the game from within the game itself. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't download and entire system menu update too. It should be ok.

What's that update? Even if my 3DS is 6.3, I bought AC-NL few days ago, and I played wifi, without having to download additional update (I even tryed to go on the game update menu and I just got an message saying no updates are availlable.)

Could we speculate a little bit more on this matter? I wanted to place an order for ACNL but I’m still confused.
Let’s put it this way: if I buy EUR ACNL and update to 4.5 via the cartridge, would I be able to play ACNL online without updating any further and endangering my Gateway usage possibility?

ok well, for me at least i have the japanese version of the game, in about may when i started to play it again i had to download the 1.1 update for the game to be able to play online.
in order to download the update it took me to the nintendo eshop, and i had to update to the latest firmware in order to get to the shop.

maybe there was another way to get that update without upgrading, i'm not sure, but it didn't seem like it.

i think just because animal crossing has an update button on the title screen, i do not think that means that is bypasses the eshop.

i read mario kart has an update? how does that work? do you need to download it via the shop? and i do not know if the E or U version of animal crossing has an update, my experience is with the japanese version of the game.

You download the MK7 update through the e-shop. The game tells you there is an update, it opens e-shop and saves it to your SD card and then you're ready to play.

Correct! The games do not have their own system for updates, it's basically a link to the e-shop application from the game. Forces us to update the system.

Your console and game are PAL (Europe) region, right?

Most likely you won’t be able to do so since the eShop games are “tied” to the console (not sure about the updates) but you could try since there is no risk. Definitely worth it. Tell me the results please since I consider buying the game too. I might be wrong.
