it depends what you capture, for SD resolution a lot of people have recomend me the Dazzle v100 and for HD, i recommend a hauppage or avermedia live gamer portable for USB 2.0, unless you are streaming, for stream i use the BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0, it is hard to make it work tho, for stream is also easier to use the avermedia live gamer portable but any USB 2.0 device will have delay for the feed in your PC, the BM in USB 3.0 or any PCI Ex device prevent that delay unless is something for SD

For the EasyCap, they can be very good, but it depends on the chipset. There was a thread over at the Speed Demos Archive forums talking about it.
I hear Dazzle DVC100's are very good, and the Hauppage HD PVR Gaming Edition 2 is legendary.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Sabrent USB 2.0 cable. It only takes input at 480(/576)i30, which means standard deinterlacing will leave you with 480p15. Yuck.
The worst part is, even though it's not doing much, it drops frames all the time.

Well, I don't use streaming video very much. Just want recording from my game system. I do know abut Dazzle but I don't know other kind of video capture.

I did look up Hauppage and it is pretty little bit expensive. So I think I am going try to buy Dazzle.

Oh never mind. I see yellow on other side.

Don't forget that the Wii has a Component cable, which is HIGHLY recommended for capture. Progressive Scan is so much better than the best deinterlacer.

Avoid Pinnacle (Dazzle) at all costs. They aren't capable of making decent capture cards. Someone I know had a Dazzle USB capture card, and it didn't even work properly. The non-Dazzle one I had myself had black borders on the sides and inferior video quality compared to my other one. It also had an issue where it would fall back to USB 1.1 mode 98% of the time, and I'd have to unplug and replug it and reboot a million times to get any resolution higher than 320x240. There are far better capture card manufacturers.
Hauppauge is fine, though for HD content you only have a few choices:
- Hauppauge HD-PVR 2
- Something by AverMedia, I have a CaptureHD PCI-E card, and it works great (at up to 1080i), they've come out with several new products by then that I have no doubt are even better.
- That BlackMagic Intensity USB 3.0 thing, but last I checked, it only worked with certain USB 3.0 chipsets. That might've been remedied now.

In that case I recommend the AverMedia. Dazzle is not worth your money.
The AverMedia is cheaper because it uses software encoding unlike the HD-PVR 2 (plus the HD-PVR 2 has a lot of extra hardware in order to do all the things it does, like HDMI passthrough) but as long as you have a reasonably recent PC, that doesn't matter.
It doesn't have to be the model he linked, a PCI-E card will probably have less latency (and therefore be far better for gaming) and possibly a lower price too. You should also get higher video quality.
They have other products here, though no prices: http://www.avermedia.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?IID=7

The Wii had an official Component cable, but they're hard to find.
I use a Monster cable from Gamestop. The quality is excellent, and well worth the $20 I paid.

Monster Cables and normal component cables aren't really that different in visual quality. I have a Nintendo component cable and it looks fantastic, just saying.

That's my point. Third-party cables are notorious for having crap quality, but my Monster cable is an exception.
Monster cables are also notorious for being way overpriced, but again, not mine.

Gamestop have it? Hmm....I will buy next month cuz my money is little bit low.
Well, it was over a year ago.
Then again, the Wii U uses the same cable, so that helps availability.

What? Every third-party cable I've used over the years (on several consoles) have been great.

This is reminds me of the HDMI debate between brands and price range.
There's nothing wrong with buying the lesser brand.

There's a difference here:
HDMI cables transmit a digital signal. As long as 100% of the data goes through, bandwidth and length being equal, one cable can't be better than another.
With analog cords like Component, the cable quality is of utmost importance.

I have been capturing and streaming for some time i own both a dazzle and hauppauge pvr and i would recommend a dazzle for anything 240 - 480 resolution also if u find a good ezcap they are cheap as anything and still output good enough quality its all about which chinese knockoff u get in the end. As for 720 - 1080 i have a hauppauge pvr and i dont like it very much because it lacks support for many capture programs and u are stuck using mainly the hauppauge certified programs and all i really want to do is use it to stream through obs but i think obs might be working to fix the problem, so if i had to choose again i would probably go for something like an avermedia card which comes with direct capture without all the stuffing around.

Great question and I'm going to respond with my experience and personal view. I've been making videos, recording gameplays and uploading to youtube for over 2 years. After months and months of trying to figure out the best device I found that the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 is by far the best device not only does it do what you need but it's not running your system dry, by this I mean it doesn't require the biggest specs to be on your laptop/computer. The device is only small and actually is a good device to display in any part of your house.

The HD PVR 2 records in 720p or even 1080p depending on what you're after when recording. The programmes you're using to record gameplay is very easy to install and is updated on a regular basis with new and promising features. The device comes with a step by step guide on how to set it up and even if you're having a little issues or something doesn't seem to be 100% there support line is amazing!! they respond within 12 hours.

I hope this helps you out they're such a great company and the device is by far the best on the market, if you have any questions be sure to reply I'll help you the best I can!!

I recommend following them on twitter and facebook.
