Recapping the events, Hayter said in December he came home to Los Angeles after being away in Toronto shooting a movie and heard that recording sessions for Metal Gear Solid V were being put together. He said he hadn't heard from Konami, so he contacted the production team to find out if he would be needed or not.

"We got together for lunch, and he told me that they 'wouldn’t be needing me' on this game," Hayter said. "No reason, or explanation was given beyond that. And that was it."

Hayter said after this meeting, he was "bummed" about not getting to reprise the role he had come to enjoy since he began contributing to the series in 1998. He explained that he has spent a "huge amount of time and effort" into making sure Snake came across as a compelling character and that he will have a tough time hearing someone else's voice as Snake.

"If it were my choice, I would do this role forever," Hayter said. "To hear anyone else’s voice coming from Snake’s battered throat, makes me a little ill, to be honest."

Honestly, Hayter needs to move on. He's had a great run and sure its a shame for him he doesn't get to do it again. As long as it isn't Nolan North let's hear someone else do Snake.

Though I will most definitely miss Hayter playing Snake/Big Boss. I think it's logical to change Big Boss' voice; aside from the fact that Big Boss is growing older, the prequel games starring Big Boss are getting near (timeline wise) to the start of the Metal Gear series starring Solid Snake, and personally, I think it'd be weird if Hayter both voiced Big Boss and Solid Snake in the same scene when they actually do finally meet in a later game or something. \

Maybe they'll use Big Boss' VA from MGS 4?

How about Christian Bale doing his Batman voice?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

For me this ranks as releasing a main Zelda game without Link....if Hayter had voiced Snake once it wouldn't even have been a problem, but the people who loved Metal Gear and made the series as popular as it is (the fans who bought into the games) love the games for the complete package, and Mr H is part of that now. If Hayter had been acting like a prima donna and throwing his weight around, or was even just rubbish, you'd have every reason to ditch him, but for him to be glossed over without even a discussion does him a disservice and lacks any respect for his efforts (which i though the Japanese were big on)

As it is....BOOOO! Do not want Fake Snake....

Spoilers relating to MGS4.

Hayter didn't voice Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 4.

EDIT: Hayter's voice was iconic but he did feel a bit off trying to do an "old man" voice. Now that Big Boss is older, it wouldn't be as good.

Still feel's a bit shitty that they snubbed him like this. At least offer him some small side part just as a nod to him.

Sad face. It won't feel right with anyone else. But that's not to say I won't play the game because of it.

There's always the risk that this is just another ceraaazey publicity stunt.

Little Known Fact: David Hayter was one of the screenwriters responsible for the first two X-Men films.

Pfft, everyone knows that one....fewer realise he was behind the Watchmen screen adaptation.

It's a big April fools. The pre-build up for this and he drops this bit of news about meeting them on April fools day? I originally thought it was sad if he's not included but this news being shown on April fools day has made me hella suspicious. They've kept the same Japanese voice for snake so it'd be strange to change the English voice.

I'm calling BS on this being true. He is still playing Snake.

Whining? I'm assuming you've not played the Metal Gear Solid games from that statement...
does it matter? the character he voices isn't in the game so I do not see the need for him to be one of the va. If I were to be subjective to my experiences though I'd say I don't enjoy the voice hayter brought to the table anyways.
