My Gamecube games keep crashing when I try to play them from my USB. Wii games work flawlessly.
Some of the games just freeze without any respone (like RE4, and some others) but most of them usually give this error, "An error has occurred. Turn the Power Off and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions." At first I thought it might have something to do with them being optimized 32k align, but after testing 3 of the same isos, but installed raw, they sill crash.

Currently using:

4.3U Wii
DIOS MIOS v2.6.1
USB Loader GX Rev1209 IOS247 (Rev21006) (d2x v6 base57)
Using this as a memory card (http://www.amazon.com/128-Memory-Card-Gamecube-Wii-GC/dp/B00170UDHM)

Any suggestions or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd first suggest updating to DM v2.8 and see if it helps. If not, do you have another USB drive you can try just to test? Anything should work, even if it's like a USB flash drive/thumb drive or a iPod or card reader or telephone that can be used as a drive when connected to the computer. See if they Also have the same error to make sure it's not just that DiosMios doesn't like your hard drive.

Didn't even know they had a 2.8, I'll check that out now. If it ends up being my hard drive then it's not worth fixing, as my last hard drive would freeze the wii before the DM logo, but this one gets me a few minutes into most games. Some games seem to work fine like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Some games freeze at very specific spots (Super Mario Sunshine freezes after you initiate the battle with the very first slime thing) and some freeze randomly (Soul Calibur 2, Digimon Rumble Arena 2.)

I was wondering, when I launch these games I don't use the no disc thing since I always have Brawl inside. Would using a gamecube disc help at all? I'd have to go through a lot of stuff to find mine, but if it'll fix it, it's worth it.

EDIT: Only link I could find for a DM v2.8 was this, and it doesn't look all that credible.

It wouldn't really matter WHAT disk is in the drive because it doesn't actually read anything from it.

Also, make sure you test first with all the settings in the loader turned off (NMM, widescreen, progressive, video mode, etc) to make sure it's not being broken by any of those.

There's also the possibility that it's the USB cable itself but it would be weird that Wii games would work fine if that were the case.
There's also a SLIGHT possibility that you're drive's going to sleep if it's particularly bad when you leave a game paused for a while or if the music stops shortly before it dies. If that's the case I'd suggest going to the website of the company that made your drive and seeing if they have some sort of configuration app that can turn off the automatic sleep off or set it's timer to something a lot higher.

Those settings are all off. It's not playing for any length of time that it freezes, just usually certain actions. It's strange because on some the games it locks whatever's happening for a few seconds, then gives the error from my first post. Zoids for example, one time I was turning and it locked me in that turn (I couldn't use any controls or anything) but the game kept playing like that for 2-3 seconds then errored. Mario always errors after the first slime boss appears but it keeps shooting my water for a few seconds then errors. Does that mean anything specific?

@rooskie Thanks man!

EDIT: Using DM v2.8 didn't change anything, but I seemed to narrow the problem down to the memory card. Tried Super Mario Sunshine three times and it kept freezing, tried it once without the memory card and it played flawlessly. After I got past the part where it would normally freeze, I plugged in the memory card, and I saved it. After I collected the shine star thing it attempted to auto save and crashed. NMM seems to be working with 2.8 (in 2.6 it did the same thing my memory card does) so I guess i'll just return the card I bought and stick with NMM till I find my old cards (legit Nintendo ones.) Kinda sucks NMM can't save the Chao Garden in SA2B..

Sorry for the double post but if I just edited my last post it would go unnoticed.

Turns out NMM still isn't working for me. It's different for all games, Zoids freezes at the main menu, Mario Sunshine crashes when it says (despite the fact I play from an already existing save, when it goes to save it says there is no file, then it fails to create one, then it crashes), Evolution Worlds freezes when I try to save, OOT does some weird white text on a black background (kinda looks like command prompt) as soon as it launches (before DM logo.) Some of the games I've tested say they should work fine (looking at the DM compatibility list) but they don't. Any ideas?

It could simply be a bad dump. But like everyone said, it could be an issue with your drive. Best is to simply try a different one.

You don't have to double post. If no one has responded, just give it some time. Don't be impatient.

I don't know if crashes are a common thing with NMM or not, but you'll definitely have issues with certain games if you use it. The compatibility is far from perfect and the best thing is to simply use a memory card. I can't see your memory card being a likely culprit for the crashes as long as it is an official one.

Only reason I double posted was because my post before made it seem like I had more or less resolved my problem, but I'll make sure not to next time.

I don't think the game is the problem as I tried three different Mario Sunshines with no change in error. My last drive wouldn't even get to the DM logo, but this one gets into every game. Some it even plays perfectly fine SA2B and Evolution World (minus NMM saving.) Is it still possible it's the drive? I'm fairly certain it's the memory card because it claims to "support" both Gamecube and Wii saves, and is definitely not Nintendo official. Plus all the games run perfectly without the card and with NMM off. I'm just trying to figure out why NMM doesn't work for virtually any of my games, even ones that the compatibility list says it does.

If it runs games without saving, then the drive isn't the culprit. 3rd party GC memory cards have a history of being dodgy, corrupting saves and so on, I hadn't heard of them causing freezes until now, but the problem may be worsened by Dios Mios I suppose. It's almost guaranteed a different memory card will solve your problem. I recommend an official 1019 block one, it's the largest official memory card you can get and will hold all the saves you'll ever need. It's $20 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OFFICIAL-NI...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item232767b255

I should have just stuck with official, but the thought of 2k blocks and saving both Wii and GC games sounded too good. Too good to be true I guess. I'm gonna borrow a friends card and test some games to make sure that'll fix the problem before I buy one. Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure what they meant by Wii and GC saves since the Wii only saves to the internal memory and then lets you move saves to/from SD. Are you sure they didn't just mean it supported both the Wii and the GC? I've seen a lot of GC accessories specifically state that they support the Wii.

That might be what it means, maybe I misunderstood the description but this is what it said:

New high quality 128MB memory card allows you to store charcters, levels, top scores and much more! This memory card is fully compatible with GameCube/Wii games and save options. Easily load, save, copy and delete games for your Nintendo Wii or Nintendo Gamecube console!

Either way it doesn't work, but the the shipping cost to return it is practically the same amount I'd get from the refund. Oh well.
