This game lags so much that I regret having bought it on the Nintendo e-Shop....
Sometimes it even freezes for some miliseconds...
Shame on you Sega!!!

Because the skies too high.

Does the game still suffer from framerate slowdowns with the 3D off? If so I may still pick this up, its £14.95 on Zaavi at the moment.
The games framerate I believe stays the same.
The framerate slowdown is due to how much is going on in the scenery.

I really asked around because i was really concerned about this too but then i just figured "why not" and bought it anyways (Cart, not eshop) and ill say this:

Yes there is slowdown, its not as bad as i thought it would be but there are 2-3 tracks that make it very noticable. However its easily playable and doesnt overly interupt the flow of the race (even online) it just stutters more than anything. I have already got used to it and im enjoying the game.

Graphics are ok i guess but dont seem overly polished, the level design is really great however and the single player actually has a single race option (unlike MK7) and i REALLY like the flow of each race, unlike mario kart 7, items arnt position specific and it allows races to feel ALOT more fun and the "BEE" item is a much better item than the "blue shell" since 1)its dodgeable (but hard to dodge) 2) if you fire it from 2-3rd position, it will still be there when you get to the point it "deployed" meaning that you yourself have to dodge it too which is fair!

Also its worth noting that iv played about 10ish rounds online and iv not had ANY "online lag" at all, i even had 1 race with the full 8 players who stayed to the end of the race and (despite the framerate issues already present) it ran pretty damn smoothly, ie no lag.

Im not going to ignore the framerate issues tho, they ARE bad and its a real shame because this is a really great game and id argue its better than mario kart 7 in term of gameplay but mario kart is much much smoother and looks better, I think if you wanna get this game and own another console that its on, Get it for that but its still pretty good for 3DS.

Thanks for the insight, seems that it is worth getting then, I'm happy that the 'bee' item is more balanced then the blue shell, I stopped playing MK7 because I kept being hit by the damned thing. Does the game have more re playability through unlocks and in game achievements?

One thing thats cool tho is each character has an "exp" bar and the more stuff you do in the game (winning, hitting enemies with weapons, dodging attacks, drifting) gives you exp points which level that paticular character up, so its worth investing time into a character you like to level them up and get acess to different powerups for your car that change how it drives (such as giving you more boost from boost pads and better handling) so there is a fair bit of replayability if you wanna get all the powerups for all the characters.

But yeah Aside from that and unlocking maps/characters there isnt much iv found (only got it today) that unlocks. Altho there is aparently 4 "????" DLC tracks that are shown but i assume those will come with future updates.

That sounds pretty good, it has alot more re playability than MK7 by the sounds of it, I'll pick it up later this week. DLC sounds cool too hopefully means that Sega could patch the games framerate issues too

Another thing to note.
Most characters vehicle transformations are intact; Albeit a little bit condensed.
Some characters have had their transformations altered completely into a dust-mist that covers the car as it changes form, Kinda lazy, but i'm thankful to them for keeping most of them intact.
