I recently sold my 3DS to upgrade to a 3DS XL.

I took my 4GB SD card and my DSTwo and basically, out of the box, I started the device and everything seems to work.

However, there are games that I have already played that had saved games within each folder of the games itself. I don't see them. It's as if it's a brand new card and a new game.

What am I missing here?

are you sure both the game and the save have the same name? (e.g. RomName.nds and RomName.sav)

I didn't do anything other than take the cards out (DSTWO Cartridge and SD card) and used them in the new 3DS XL. I didn't change any file structure.

Usually when you play a game, the .sav is stored in the same folder as the game you played (what you matched) I checked the games that I know I have played and I don't see anything in them...hmm it's so odd!

Any other suggestions?

Dang...

Unfortunately, I don't have the original 3DS anymore. Is there anything else I can do?

What I don't get is if everything is stored on the microsd card, how can it disappear if I move the cartridge from one 3ds system to another? Understandably the link you sent me seems to make some sense but the save games that I had should still be on the microSD card on the cartridge (DSTWO).

Anyone can help?

Stuff you download is signed/encrypted for that 3DS. The contents of the MicroSD are useless to any 3DS but the original one.

What happens when you do the transfer is that the first 3DS contacts Nintendo's servers and sends them a list of all the official content it has. Then the second 3DS asks for that list, gets it, and redownloads all the stuff on it's own (which is signed for that second 3DS), then the first 3DS deletes it's content.

EDIT: DS saves aren't covered in the 3DS transfer since they're in each DS cart anyways (or on the MicroSD of a flash cart), the 3DS software transfer is in regards to 3DSWare, games, stuff like that.

If you're talking about save files for eshop/3DS games then this is expected. You have to do a system transfer or you're out of luck.

If you're talking about roms on your DSTWO, then maybe there's a contact issue between the microSD and the flashcart.

Are the files/folders showing up on your PC?

I can check it with the PC in a few but my games folder does show up and the game itself shows up. I don't see how the save games won't? In other words, when I do start the game, and any game that I try to "LOAD" a game which I have played before, it is basically telling me I have never played it.

In the past, I always noticed a .sav file.

Ok, I just checked it on the PC. The .sav files are on there.

Ok, I figured it out. I had to change what files it would see in the DSTwo Settings page.

It is working now. I knew there was something I was missing.
