Sounds to me he's the opposite of a jack-of-all-trades in terms of technical geekery; he's extremely specialized and interested in one area and everything else he couldn't care less about.

Which begs the question why he didn't post Devolution on Wiibrew in the first place... I mean, Devolution's anti-piracy measures should have made it perfectly alright to post on there.
Because the people on Wiibrew think that having a backup loader makes you a pirate, unless it's an emulator, which is for some reason okay.

Devolution in Wii Mode from WiiU.
I have my doubts...

First off, he runs it off the HBC. The HBC can't be run on a wiiu, and it's not that likely he got an early wiiU version.
Second: version and date of devolution aren't changed. I know this doesn't say as much (see also: the not updating of meta.xml), but still...
Third and most important: it's a video of a guy being frustrated in front of a PC. How much less subtle needs the hint to be before people get it in their skull that there is no way to input something on the wiiU?

Where was the post made, by the way? I can't seem to find it in this thread.

I'm guessing this is why he's been so quiet the last month or so, because he knows the current verification scheme doesn't work on a Wii U and therefore it's better to not talk about it at all until he has a solution, since we all know where the conversation goes if it's brought up.

Also turns out we had similar a idea in terms of "yo dawg", though I originally suggested Zelda Master Quest for four layers of "yo dawg"-ness.

Uh, a video has already been released by fail0verflow showing HBC running on a Wii U using an unreleased exploit. This was released on the 30th, the same day the Wii U was released in Europe.

It stands to reason that if Devolution works on a Wii, then it will work on the Wii U's Wii mode without needing any updates. Either that or he just hasn't manually updated those numbers because there's no need until release time.

What?

About the input - first, notice in the video that is says press 1 or 2 to mount an SD card or USB drive. AFAIK our current r168 still says "press X or Y"; that in itself shows minimal wiimote functionality, which would be required for use on a Wii U (at least to be able to launch the game).

Good spot! Wonder if Wiimote support is coming soon?

I know about that video. But like I said: I don't think tueidj got a version of it before the rest of the internet.

No. It doesn't stand to any reason. Even if tueidj got that early HBC for wiiU, it doesn't automatically mean AHBPROT will be enabled for all homebrew.

*sigh*
The wiiu doesn't have gamecube controllers. And until tueidj can figure out how to enable for other controllers, there is not much of a point of having it on the wiiU. I mean...all you can do is sit in front of your television looking bewildered because nothing works (which just happened to be nicely demonstrated on that video).

Tueidj has done some work on the Homebrew Channel in the past, like USB 2.0 support. It doesn't appear that he is a member of Team Twiizers though. Perhaps he was able to obtain a version of the HackMii Installer that works on the Wii U? Obviously, this is speculation on my part.

I will say that I haven't seen anything about whether HW_AHBPROT can work on the Wii U or not. However, I'm pretty certain that the Homebrew Channel (or at least some installed channel) is required for AHBPROT access, and only a few people have been able to install an unofficial channel on the Wii U. Everyone else has had to use the Smash Stack or a similar game exploit to run Wii homebrew. According to that video (which was uploaded by tueidj), it is being run over HDMI. The Wii doesn't support HDMI.

He may not have enabled access for other controllers yet. If that's the case, then he would not able to progress any further in the game. It seems to me that this video could just be proof that Devolution will work on the Wii U. However, as stated earlier in the thread, the Devolution screen does say "Press 1 and 2" instead of "X and Y," so that could be proof that he has added at least some Wii Remote support to Devolution.

The download link in the first post links directly to whatever the newest version of Devolution is, in this case r168. The first post's text just hasn't been updated.
