A few weeks back, Sonic the Fighters was found to be on a "soon to be released list" for XBLA. Today, with the release of Sonic Jump, SEGA has released a video of Virtua Fighter HD, and Sonic the Fighters HD.

New additions to the arcade port, is the ability to play as Metal Sonic, Honey the Cat (A scrapped character in the arcade release) and Dr. Eggman. Online features have also been added. The port is announced only for Japanese audiences for now, but a worldwide release is likely.

So, I guess SEGA can finally take down those Missing Since '93; Fang the Sniper posters in City Escape. XD

Woo! An updated version of Sonic the Fighters with online play! Heck ya!
The game cube version wasn't that great anyway so this is just pure awesome.
Too many Sega re releases lately its getting costly.

For those asking, Sonic the Fighters was an arcade only game made by AM2 who also were working on Fighting Vipers around the same time. Thus why Honey was going to be a playable character and why its a big deal they enabled it.

It was going to be released for the Sega Saturn but it simply didn't make it.
It did however manage to get onto Sonic Gems collection for the Gamecube but beyond that it never had a true console release.

So now we get it with some updates and Online play!
Hopefully a few extra features too if the game is a stand alone.

VF2 and Virtual On I'm down for as well.
Been playing VF5:FS and its gotten me into a bit of a nostalgia trip so VF2 arcade port? Do want.
Just need a proper Dual Stick joystick for the latter game xD

Why have I never heard of Sonic the Fighters? Was it not successful?
It was a truly awful game.
That is an opinion, yes. I enjoyed it greatly as a short game to pick up and play every so often on Gems Collection. It played pretty solidly, was full of goofiness, and was a unique arcade-style Sonic experience at the time.

Sonic The Fighters being bad is kinda the prevailing opinion, to be fair.

Personally I found it to be on par with being smacked about the face with a table leg. A painful and joyless experience that leaves you and everything around you feeling unstable.

So they took Honey from Fighting Vipers, and turned her into a Cat in a Sonic fighting game?

Huh.

Well, yeah. Sonic the Fighters is just Fighting Vipers in disguise. Though, in the original release, Honey was an unused, unfinished character. The people porting this version probably just found her data and decided to finish her up.

I loved playing this game, I would use all my chuck e cheese tokens getting killed by metal sonic.

I will state as I did in the last topic, more crap. I will be selfish and say just give me Fighters Megamix and you have a done deal Sega

Or Sega could just give us HD Dreamcast remixes. Everyone loved Jet Set Radio HD, they've still got Shenmue and shit to do. It can at least make the Dreamcast successful posthumously.

nintendo and sega knows how to milk money from player's nostalgia

I like when companies do that. There are many older games I could keep playing, mainly due to HD re-release. Still waiting for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars to release on the 3DS eShop, HD or not.

very much agreed there, although I would like to see some Saturn title come back. Mainly nostalgia stuff there but it had good games
