Anyone ever autoboot a disc from RM with missing setting.txt? I imagine it does not work, but atm I can not test as one of my lovely kids have stuck something into my drive. Anyway, someone has a 4.3u wii and has uninstalled their system menu. Before I tell them they are screwed, I just wanted to check to see if anyone as ever tried to load a game disc from RM after removing their setting.txt.

Edit: Never mind, RM no worky with no setting.txt

I was just about to tell you that without setting.txt, almost nothing will work. You can't even use the HBC through (bootmii as boot2).
HBC via boot2 bootmii seems to still be working, and no issue loading games from cfg usbloader. Just no system menu or recovery menu. Priiloader also works without the setting.txt. Just when the system menu or RM is loaded there is no signal to the tv. Also I can't seem to keep my wiimote synced to the wii, I am able to sync in game but when I restart the wii it is no longer synced, when I use the red button to sync.

So if someone without boot2 bootmii was to uninstall a system menu wad, then reinstall a system menu wad, and then reinstall priiloader before restarting, they would be able to restore the setting.txt. Another good reason to reinstall priiloader immediately after a system menu install before restarting.

I guess the next question is if the RM is just not being displayed, or if it is not loading at all. Hard for me to say with my broken drive ATM.

there is an app that will reinstall setting.txt through bootmii, i cant not for the life of me remember what its called, it happened to me a few years ago, i remember you need a modified bootmii boot.elf to run it though, i think its made by wiigator (the modified boot)

EDIT

it also requires a gamecube pad to navigate

You are correct. I remember the same. It's been too long since another person has made the same mistake. Xflak or I probably do have it stored somewhere. It came out around the time that cboot2 came out. There are also other methods to get around it. Most of them are rather complicated for the average user.

I don't remember any tools to replace the setting.txt, just tools that will dump it. However, I still got a suggestion for you :D

Try building a setting.txt using settings.exe\modmii (comes bundled with modmii) for the same serial # as the wii. Then try manually copying the file to the nand using fstoolbox or something. Obviously make sure u got a nand backup before trying anything though.

thats it! cboot2 is needed to run a patched ios, and i think the app was called System Setting Replace Tool 0.21, i cant find a link for it anywhere though, i thought i'd still have it myself because it was a bitch to find back then, but it seems i have deleted it somehow

I just checked my massive collection of apps and found something similar and re-uploaded it

Setting Replace Mod
http://www.mediafire.com/?ybiz85gr1gnkk7z

Just a small hopefully helpful Mod of Systsem Setting Replacer Tool
Warning\Info Screen Added
IOs-Reload to 249 added
IOS-Check added

Mod By: BlacAce83
Have IOS249 installed and your region Setting.txt in apps folder with the boot.dol Then run program by any means

Here's a Small Mod of a Old Program System Setting's Replace Used Mainly when you've uninstalled your System Menu and have tried to re-install it only to find your WiiMote doesn't connect and your system setting's have been removed. Which kill's Wiimote doing so.

Useful for replacing your System Setting.txt if its removed

CHANGELOG v0.21
================
-Fixed a Failed -106 error
-Added a Warning\Info Screen Explaining how to use it
-IOS-Reload to IOS249 So people wont have to worry about patching a IOS, Just need -IOS249 Installed
-IOS-Check to See if the IOS is Installed Correctly or Stubbed.
-It Already had GC Pad Support

I/WE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY WII’S THAT GET DAMAGED DURING THE PROCESS. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

edit:
lol, what's sad is I forgot this app even existed and there it was "collecting dust" on my HDD

It also requires a proper cios in slot 249, es-identify is needed if I recall, base 38 works well. You can use cboot2 to launch it, but it is not needed as system settings replace mod has no "no reload ios" feature available to take advantage of cboot2's patched ios. So you must install cios, or move any 3.2 era ios into slot 249. Loading from the HBC or priiloader workes just as well, or even the loader in wiimod or MMM.

@[member='mauifrog'], do u think using fstoolbox as in my original suggestion above would work without as many requirements?
With fstoolbox you can only replace files that are already on nand. So you could replace one setting.txt with another without issue, but you could not write a setting.txt to a nand that did not have one. In this case the only fix is either a nand restore with bootmii, or a restore of the setting.txt with the system setting replace mod. AFAIK, there is no other way to do it.

I've always hated that about the app. Why doesn't someone just make a quick mod to the app so that it can be possible? It seems almost stupid that it was never implemented.
You have to know the file properties. You can't just add new files and expect it to work.

Edit: Here is an example: http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/3171-NAND-Gamesave-Restore?p=30096#post30096

There are plenty of files that you can get away with guessing them and things will work just fine. But in this situation with the setting.txt file, all you have to do is just ask someone else what the file properties for that file are on their wii. Simple enough. :D

edit: Yeah, I had read that a long time ago, notice that I thanked him for that post :P, you know, that "thanking feature" that I so fucking hate.
