California development studio Spark Unlimited, who are currently working on Lost Planet 3 maybe also working on reboot of Capcom's Onimusha series according to PSM3 magazine. Only last year Yoshinori Ono was quoted as saying he would like to make a new multiplayer entry into the series. Onimusha had 5 entrys on the PS2 ranging from 4 in an offical series and 1 spin off beat em up.

If it turns out to be true I expect Capcom to churn out a Onimusha HD collection too

True or not the Onimusha series is one of those series that doesn't need a reboot and if anything just needs a proper sequel. Between the 4 there was 1 and 3 which actually followed the main Character Samanosuke Akechi and are easily the best in the series. Then there was the 2nd which was more or less a filler and wasn't at all bad. The 4th on the other hand was just a joke because it wasn't at all like the original 3 and I have no idea why they'd even considering this over the original formula.

Point being I love the Onimusha series and I always wanted another proper sequel. They could easily pop out another game with Samanosuke Akechi or a game featuring Kaede (his side kick from the first game) who we all know dies eventually while searching for Samanosuke so that alone would be interesting. Or they could make another game like the second which has a completely new cast and a ton of new features that wasn't used in any other game.

The series is still fresh and the ideas are endless so a reboot is probably the dumbest thing they could do. Now a sequel? well.. a sequel is the smartest thing they could do.

Gonna agree and then disagree.

I agree it needs a proper sequel, especially with the way the story in Onimusha 4 was.
But having just played 4 recently, I'd have to say it was definitely the best in the series.
From gameplay to art direction to definitely the storyline, it was simply a great game.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was true, Capcom has a history of bringing something back only to get a poor studio to handle the game.

Spark Unlimited? Like Turning Point and Legendary developer Spark Unlimited?

That doesn't exactly bode well.

I played Legendary...

How are these people allowed to develop anything other than suicidal tendancies after that abomination?

I know this is a bit irrelevant, but I think Spark and Sony got their titles mixed up. Sucker Punch's game was (arguably) Legendary, while Spark's output is Infamous among gamers.

Okay seriously, what is with Spark Unlimited. They've made pretty much nothing good and they're working on Yaiba, rumored to work on this, rumored to work on Battlefront III. Who the fuck keeps giving them work?
