I dunno why, but i hated the look of wii games. Its part of why I hardly bought any games...i didn't feel much from displaying them.

I think it was in part due to the designs being bland and the boxes being plain white. nothing in it really stood out as interesting

Definitely with McHaggis on the case size, sick to the back teeth of DVD sizes already, whereas my PS3/Blu-Ray cases still look fresh enough.... Do we know the final specs for Wii U storage anyway? Since Ninty have already said all games will be available both retail & digital from day 1 I might just go that route instead, easier (lazier more like hehe!) and less shelf space taken, therefore happier missus = me happy too! Won't care about the boxart then!
Looks OK to me otherwise, if just a litte 'meh' - doesn't scream "hey look at me I'm next gen!" really....

8GB internal flash memory but you can plug in any HDD or SD card you wish, which for me is just perfect. I'd rather they did that than charge for extra storage when I've got a spare HDD.

Disc size is said to be 25GB, I'm not sure if that is 100% true though.

I'd prefer it if they cases were different to regular DVD cases. Not sure why but I like my games to stands out.

I loved the Dreamcast Game Cases, they had really something magical.

The blue stripe in the middle separates the Disc from the handbook, really clever and slick design.
I always wonder why all NTSC Games where in normal Jewel Cases while PAL Games where in those unique Cases?

edit
I am ok with the yellow stripe and i speculate that it represents the light that the Disc Slot emits like the original Wii had blue light.

Say...when you guys mean "boxarts"...you ARE refering to that blue goo that's dribbling from the top, right?

I'm not a fan. And honestly: I don't get how anyone of you thinks different.

It's basically a copy-paste of the the gamecube with worse colors (I'm siding with the critics against yellow on this one).

Furthermore...yeah...the name. The boxart crushes my last hope nintendo will admit their choice was a working title until they came up with a good name. I'm not so sure if their decision to make the 'U' smaller and logo-ish is wise. I just KNOW some parents will return their game, puzzled that it won't play on their wii. "But it's a wii game! It says wii right here!", they'll say. To which a despairing shopkeeper will point out the "U" of "wiiU" ("yes, maam. wiiU. It's a different console. A gaming machine. Yes, you'll need one of those before your son can play this game. I'm sorry nintendo ruined your Christmas."), and not some random logo you'll find stamped on pretty much any game.

Looks awesome. I really like the yellow line. It grows on one very quick imo. M-Rated games with the black case (if they continue with that) should look amazing with that yellow line.

But tbh I don`t really care all that much.

Really? You thought after E3 and them promoting the shit out of it everywhere...you really thought that they might change the name this late in the game?

It's a brand, Wii is a successful brand just like "Nintendo" was with the first three consoles...they used a different brand for Gamecube...they came 3rd in that gen. They've done this many times with Gameboy and DS. Personally I'd rather they'd come up with a new name but then I don't earn big bucks in marketing, they pay people to do that and their research showed that sticking with the Wii brand is the best bet.

Besides if people are too stupid to not research what they buy then fuck 'em. Really, getting tired of parents who are too lazy to research what they buy their kids blaming others for their mistakes. I had this when I worked for Leapfrog "hey I bought a Leappad game but it doesn't work with my kids Leapster 1 from several years ago...yeah Leapster2 games don't work on it but really you're misleading people blah blah".

People should know this by now, it's not just with gaming its with a lot of things too. It's been going on for decades, if a product has a familiar name and then something added next to it, you look to see if it's compatible with the previous product yourself. Do Sony have "not compatible with PS1 or PS2" notices on their PS3 games? If not then Nintendo shouldn't have to, it's not up to them to nanny idiots.

Rant over :)

It's their fault for being to lazy/stupid to research their stuff before buying. Plus, I think the kid would know the difference.

Of those three, I like the first one best with the logo engraved into it.

The last one (official?) is good as long as it's the right blue and the yellow isn't that strong. It's a delicate balance for me with that blue and yellow. I can be done right but if not the whole powder blue thing starts looking like something from the 60's or 70's for me. (Too old school for a new console)

The red one just burns my eyes.

Overall, I think the new cases look good. Definitely better then the Wii ones. Plus, I like blue.

As for the whole "name confusion" thing, I think Nintendo gets a bad rap for that. Looking at Yahoo answers just now, there are tons of similar questions for "Do PS3 games work on PS2?" and "Do Xbox360 games work on the Xbox?'". People are either a) dumb b) delusional or in some cases c) genuinely clueless - back in the GCN days there were a lot of people asking for "Gamebox" games. Just the other day in gamestop I heard somebody ask for "that new mario game on xbox" and then they got pissed when they were told that was never happening, because of course, they insisted that there kid had played at a friends house just last week.

Will some people buy Wii U games and have them not work? Yes. Has this been going on since computers/videogames/etc were invented? Also yes. For instance -
  • Tech Support: "What kind of computer do you have, sir?"
  • Customer: "Computer? I don't have one of them things."
  • Tech Support: "What DO you have?"
  • Customer: (proudly) "A modem."
  • Tech Support: "Sir. You need a computer to send and receive email. A modem won't work by itself."
  • Customer: "Well, dammit...I have a modem, and the guy at Best Buy said this was all I'd need to get online! I want to cancel my account! I'm not spending no damn two thousand dollars on a computer!"

They should add a text in the lower right corner like on the 3DS cases. But than saying it isn't working on the wii
I didn't think our boxes have that. On top of that, the wii u box looks like it going to be blue. Are people that confused/blind?

I still like the "official" case better even with the yellow.
