Popular ArmA II mod, DayZ, is finally getting its own game.

The game, now just branded DayZ, is being published by Bohemia Interactive, the same people behind the game the mod is based on, ArmA II. The original team behind the mod will be the developers as well.

The popular zombie survival mod became an overnight success as Steam sales of ArmA II skyrocketed following its release. The mod uses the ArmA II engine for a high sense of realism to create a MMO-style zombie game focused on scavenging and surviving as much as it is killing zombies or rival players. The mod recently passed one million users and has been branded as one of the most popular and successful mods in history.

No release date was announced yet, but the mod will still be up and running while the standalone game is in development.

That depends on how much of a hurry you are in to play DayZ, i have had a few attempts at DayZ and i always end up running away from zombies, it certainly is tough at the start of DayZ

Precisely why I didn't buy Arma 2.

Hopefully the standalone game is optimized enough so that it doesn't run like shit on most computers like Arma 2.

Not really into multiplayer but I've been interested by waht I've seen with this though. Is there a mode where I can just survive in single player?

I knew it! I wonder if this is also going to be free though?

No, if it was free then the could not make any money on it. I would suspect that the game will retail for $30 or $40 on Steam.

But the mod was free, its not like the Arma producers were paying them for it >_> they weren't making money off of it to begin with.

Technically they were, a lot of people only bought ArmA so they can play this.

I'm not an expert on DayZ, far from it, but from what i've learnt it can be more preferable to be on your own, as you never know when you meet another player whether that player will PK you for your items.

What I mean is, is there an offline mode. I'd rather just deal with zombies, I'd love there to be a "last human on Earth" kind of zombie game to play.

Lol, not as far as i know. That would defeat the object of the game, not only do you have to be aware of the zombies, but also will another player you meet PK you?

Well I might give it a pirate to see if I enjoy it and I'll wait for a zombie game where you're the last person alive.

BTW I have no idea what PK is, I'm not up on this lingo.

But not the modders, just the Arma producers. Frankly, the only reason I can see it not being free is just greed.
