Okay, now that I've had the time to play with this tablet a bit, time to flesh out this post!

Nexus Root Toolkit gives the easiest way to unlock and root your Nexus 7 and flash a custom recovery. Once I got the drivers installed, it took about 45 seconds to unlock it it and another minute to flash the superboot bundle and CWM Touch
Nexus 7 Kernel, ROM, and Guide collection

On mine, I am running the MoDaCo Jr5 rom with the Atlantis R2 kernel. I'm at 23.5 hours on battery with 62% left with light to fair use throughout the day, wifi and bluetooth on. Performance is great so far, and there are already a lot more roms out for this thing than there were last night when I last checked. I'm hoping AOKP get's ported to this once they come out with a good JB release - they released a JB alpha for AOKP on Galaxy Nexus phones, and it's great so far.

The stock LCD density on the tablet is 213. I dropped it down to 160 so I could get the tablet UI. It's fantastic, but every once in a while text appears to be ever so slightly mis-drawn, so I am gonna play with it some more and see if there's anything a little higher that makes it just right.

I put Nova Launcher on it and used 4 bucks of the Google Play credit to buy the Pro key finally. I've found apps on Google Play that are listed as incompatible but work fine -_- like the TD Bank app, which is basically a custom frame for their mobile website; pulled the APK from my phone and sideloaded it on the tablet no problem.

MoDaCo was a cool guy and released the Nexus 7 Camera Launcher, which gives you a Camera shortcut since the tablet doesn't have one built in.

Anyone wanna buy my Pandigital Novel 7" tablet? I'll sell it for $20 + shipping, all accessories included.

No joke, if I get $20 for it I'd be lucky. That thing is garbage. It's got like 256MB ram, for one, no idea how slow the CPU is, android 2.1, resistive screen, no GPS/BT, rotation/accelerometer only works 90 degrees counter clockwise... (but seriously, if anyone wants to buy it at that price, PM me. It IS good for reading e-books, which is what it is technically designed for)

I can't wait to get my Nexus 7. WHERE IS MY SHIPPING CONFIRMATION EMAIL. SEND IT NAO.

Hey do you guys think N64oid will work on this? I heard it required a quad-core processor to run at full speed. It doesn't work at all on my rooted nook color.

Well the mod I have installed on it is cyanogenmod 7 11162011 nightly encore. I remember it worked on the old version but stopped after the update. Even when it worked it wasn't at full speed. But the nook color is pretty outdated at this point. I expect to be blown away by the nexus 7.

Yeah, it will.
N64oid works at a relatively playable rate on my SGS i9000, which is two years old. Granted, it is overclocked with a custom ICS rom, but still.

Ordered mine through EbGames :) Hopefully the development scene is good, I know as soon as I get mine I'll rip the OS apart and put it back the way I want it complete with the Xperia Play launcher.

I'll certainly flesh out this post a bit more when mine arrives, but for now, I leave this link: http://www.thedroidb...nexus-7-tablet/
I am almost certain that that guide has steps missing. You put the SuperSU ZIP on the device (on the virtual SD card), but it never tells you to actually flash that ZIP. It also tells you to enter "recovery mode" to flash CWM. This is wrong. You need to be in fastboot mode. (It shows a fastboot command for flashing CWM, which won't work in recovery mode, certainly not stock recovery mode).

EDIT: I suspect that link may have copied the tutorial (badly) from here: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1741395

EDIT: There's also a "one click root" available: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742919

And another method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750835

I don't know if there's much difference (the last one doesn't actually flash anything to your device by my understanding, no CWM or anything like that) in the end result, but there's a little selection for you.

It's a Nexus device. The dev scene is going to explode when this thing gets shipped to everyone.

Yeah I know it missed a step or two, and I never thought to update the OP with a correct one from XDA. Suppose I'll do that now!

According to a post on Reddit, the Nexus 7 is supposed to ship today to people who pre-ordered it via the Google Play Store. I've been disappointed with every email that's been pushed to my phone so far today.

Really? I ordered mine from staples on July 9th.

http://www.staples.com/Google-Nexus-7-16GB-Tablet/product_949231?catalogId=10051&fromUrl=home&cmSearchKeyword=nexus+7&cmArea=SEARCH&langId=-1&storeId=10001&ddkey=http:StaplesSearch

Anyway, while you're waiting try doing something to occupy your time. I'm learning how to load gamecube games from a USB external hard drive on my wii.

It actually released yesterday (Friday, July 13, 2012). GameStop sold it to all customers who pre-ordered the Nexus 7 on or before July 11, 2012. Each store was shipped the exact amount for their pre-orders. They are already taking reserves for their second shipment. Keep in mind, GameStop only offered pre-orders on the 16GB model, and still only offers pre-orders on that same model. You cannot get the $200 8GB from that particular outlet.

Well after messing with it some I'm please to say that N64oid works on it. The speed is much faster than on my old nook color. Nesoid, snesoid and gcoid also work. But unfortunately gensoid and gameboid don't work. Whenever I try loading a ROM it takes me back out to the apps screen.

I also noticed that adobe flash player doesn't work. Even after I forcefully installed it, some anime streaming sites still don't work. This is disappointing.

And in the latest version of dolphin browser pinch to zoom doesn't work. But it works fine on the chrome browser.
