Xbox 361? Is that suppose to be a joke or something?Hmm, still holding out for the XBOX361 and since i already have a PS3, I see no point of this, since most people that are going to buy a ps3 have already bought one.
>confirmedMeh, not even really a confirmed rumour. Plus, you spelt "their" wrong - it's annoying me. :L
That ain't even possible. What would be interesting is if this had anything to do with Sony's acquisition of Gaikai. No disc tray, no hard drive, just streaming PS3 games.
All of Gaikai's image quality and latency optimisation efforts have been built around PC technology, which in the short term may cause issues for Sony, because cloud servers aim to provide tolerable controller response by running games at twice the frame-rate of a typical console title. Local latency on a 30FPS game (defined by the time taken between button press and the resulting action on-screen) is around 100ms at best, typically dropping to 50-66ms when run at 60FPS. Gaikai and OnLive aim to use that latency "saving" to offset the cost of encoding, transmitting and decoding video. The result is streaming gameplay with ballpark console response levels - in theory, at least.
There's nothing to stop Sony simply installing a big bunch of PlayStation 3s in each datacentre, but the result would be highly sub-optimal as there would be no 60FPS vs. 30FPS latency off-setting at all - all the 'cloud stuff' would simply be added to the existing lag. Sony's Remote Play isn't particularly effective for this exact reason, and that's running on a local connection.

ZING!

my ignorance may show here but I never thought the ps3 had the N band to work with? only console I know that does is the 360 slim
The PSP had a remote play option that wasn't always used and several other features that can be used with a PS3.snip

Cloud gaming would be pointless on a home console. The PS3 already has enough power to run very great looking games. All that cloud gaming would bring is blocky graphics and it may be laggy on slow network connections. I can only see cloud gaming being useful on mobile devices.
Someone has obviously never used OnLive ....
fingerprints can be rubbed off. dont touch it. glossiness is for looking at and not touching. if it was the 3ds or ds then its a bad idea bcz ur hands are always on it.

can onlive run current gens games at 60 FPS on a 1MBit connection?

so you are saying to not turn on the console, don't move it, don't take the disc out, that would be quite difficult to do if you want to USE the console, wont it?![]()

Oh my, it's raining silly again today...So they can steal another feature.their waiting for the wiiu to be released 1stI wanted a PS4, sony.

They already stole the WiiU tablet style gaming by alluding that the came can be done with PS3 & Vita. Unless they're gonna make a Vita with NFC a IR port, AND get the internal cam to work with PS Move, there's not much else they can "steal"

Sony stole nothing. This is like saying that Apple stole from Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell. If you want to be picky about the WiiMote as much as you are about the tablet, you can just as well be mad at Nintendo since they nicked the concept from SEGA and Midway. Certain technology should just be widely accepted as standard - I mean the use of cameras, gyro's, touchscreens etc. If the technology is here, it'd be a sin not to use it. Each company has their own unique flair to the use of touchscreens on a home console - Nintendo has a tablet, Sony wants to use the Vita, Microsoft wants to make anything compatible with SmartGlass - it's all different technology with different features, stop overreacting.

Hey hey! There's no good reason to bring logic into this! We have to keep up the Fanboy status quo, no matter what. If we so much as admit that Sony has come up with an original idea, our fanboy cards will be revoked. You have no idea how hard it is to keep up this image!![]()
Thank you for a legitimate explanation rather than needless hate. It's interesting to know how the services really work. That ain't even possible. What would be interesting is if this had anything to do with Sony's acquisition of Gaikai. No disc tray, no hard drive, just streaming PS3 games.
