Let's just act like the Wii U doesn't have a 8GB storage and Nintendo hasn't announced the Wii U's storage.

Honestly, I would be ok if the Wii U will have a HDD but if the HDD will be too expensive (just like XB0X 360 HDDs), I will just stick with my 1TB External HDD.

I heard from a site that the Black Wii U will be the "premium version" and it might have a HDD. BUT THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR.

Honestly if Nintendo was smart enough, they would make packages like, others have a 8GB HDD, and others have a 320GB HDD etc etc.

One with built in storage that exceeds 8GB would help for those who may not want the hassle of finding a HDD, they just want to plug it in and play or for those who would rather not have an external HDD as it may look untidy for the set up. This would also help towards getting those "impulse" online purchases more if a more "casual" customer didn't have to worry about space.

And then one like they said about already for people like me who would rather either use an existing HDD to save on costs or someone who would want more space than what Nintendo would ever package.

I think Microsoft doing that with their 360 consoles has helped them quite a lot.

I don't see why they wouldn't put a hard drive into the system. External USB drives are slow compared to something built in, plus external drives are generally mechanical so you are more likely to have a hard drive that dies from being constantly on all the time and not very portable if you wanted to move your console to another location. I hope they at least use SDXC support if they have an SD card slot so that way we can use up to 2TB SD cards when they start hitting the market. Honestly though at either rate I'd be opting for storage that uses a flash or NAND based system and not a mechanical drive. Even SSD's are getting to the point where a decent sized one can be had for reasonable money and it would be sufficient for a console, especially if you get one that is over 120GB on sale. Still, SDXC is a reasonably priced storage medium.

An internal HDD would make the system larger. Personally, I'm fine with the current options. I can just add a cheap large external hard-drive.

USB 3.0/eSATA begs to differ. And it wouldn't be always on.

too bad everything Nintendo has told us so far says "4 USB 2.0 ports"

usb 2.0 reads at 35MB/s if i've done my homework whereas BD at 8x hits 36 MB/s, further research suggests a 'theoretical' 12x at 54... so maybe usb 2.0 is all that's really going to be necessary

External hard drives are really the only option. Especially if wiiU games can be installed to the hard drive for faster access. The reason? There's just no freakin' way you can make it a one-size-fits-all. For some people, 8 gigabyte will be overkill while others will need at least ten times that amount.

Just let people buy their own external hard drive. The thing already comes with USB-ports...why NOT allow people to plug in their hard drives?

@[member='DSGamer64']: you have no idea what a sofmodded wii can do. I'm using neek2o, which means that EVERYTHING is loaded from my USB drive. My internal drive could be corrupted for a year, for all I know (okay, I'm exagerrating...but not much). And aside from it being a bit slower to start, the games load and play just as fast - or even faster - than on the real nand.
Yes, the wiiU is more powerfull. But soulx already mentioned it: USB3.0 will ensure that isn't a bottleneck (sorry: can't vouch for eSATA).

EDIT: damn...didn't knew about the wiiU using USB 2.0. That's probably not a smart move on nintendo's behalf...

hopefully they put enough space in the internal as the wii's 512mb space was really bad, also with nintendo saying they want to support dlc for their wii u they are going to have to make bigger hard drives in their console.

nintendo could support a external hard drive but it will be heavily locked down or they will force you to buy their own brand just to make more money.

I thought the whole idea is they would let you use your own HDD, regardless of the brand? Locking customers down to specialized 1st party memory storage mediums at jacked up prices is more up Sony's alley than Nintendo's, honestly.

who knows what route they will take? also sony let you install your own internal hard drive, you can also use any external hard drive you want too, it's only microsoft that force you to buy their own brand hard drive.

Personally, I don't want them to have internal hard drives and a bunch of different models. I hate the route that sony and microsoft has taken with so many different models and such. I was very happy that there was only one model of the wii for the longest time.

And folks, before anyone gets confused when I say "models", I don't count different colors as being different models.

SDHC card have class. People are dumb. They do not know what it is. They might buy class 2 card and then whine why it is so slow.

Class hasn't mattered for years.
