58 is the number of this GBAtemp book game club. We have been running a while now but a quick intro is still warranted. The idea is each edition a game or a selection of them will be offered up and those that would like to partake in the club can play it or recount a time they played it before sharing thoughts with the others in the thread.
The GBA, DS and Wii libraries will be our main sources but there are a lot of rom hacks, leaked code, commercial releases and homebrew to have a look at there. That said we will occasionally look at games that can be emulated on the DS or pose a challenge/run in a game. Quality titles are certainly desirable but they are not the main criteria and slightly flawed but otherwise very interesting titles are equally likely to get the light shined upon them.

#58- C.O.P the recruit (DS)

Earlier in 2009 the DS had finally got a Grand Theft Auto game and not long before this was released the PSP got what some have argued is a far superior port of the same title not to mention. Still Ubisoft released the work of Velez & Dubail dev team (previously known for the handheld V-Rally series and several other 3d racing games for handhelds) right at the start of November. The result was an impressive technical feat turned into a somewhat flawed open world (ish) game where you play as a policeman attempting to stop a terrorist plot but one worth having played. The controls take quite a bit of getting used to but get that done and we hold you can have a good time.

Short gameplay video but several lets plays and first 10 minutes videos are available

GBAtemp release thread

November is a very busy time most years for games releases and it has seen many a title pushed back to January- should the developers have asked for the extra time to polish it up or was it fine as it was?

gbagotw should get you other links in this series

I played the game when it was dumped and thought it was utter bollocks. I shall now give this another go. Hopefully my standards for games have dropped since than.

Oh man what a piece of shit this game was! The cars looked like triangles until they were near you, gameplay was flawed to shit, aiming bad, dull missions & and a total mess of a story. Driving was really bad also and this part should have had more attention paid to it as its pretty much 90% of the game. Also when you shoot someone, its like they never notice and then after a stupid amount of shots they just flash in an old timey retro way and disappear!

Clearly this game was released unfinished.

I really didn't enjoy it, and I honestly tried to like it since it's my type of a game. To me, it just took too long to get to the "juicy" parts and the game tried to squeeze out more juice than the DS actually has, hence the not-so-perfect physics. Still, it's definitely a huge technological feat - to this day I'm amazed that they managed to pull this off... but... It really feels like a glorified tech demo rather than a finished, polished product.

Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

Wow, it was an interesting story few years back huh? Finding the right patch to avoid the AP was one memorable moment.
It's weird that I actually finished the game and I enjoyed it. I found it's trilling and exciting, this game always get my hand sweaty, every single time!

I tried to give this one a full playthrough but couldn't.
The horrible animation and controls killed it for me. I really wanted to like it, but instead I had to get rid of it.
A reboot on the 3ds would be interesting though, since the devs would have more power to work with. Don't see that happening though.

Hmm... this game I gave only roughly 15 minutes before I decided to delete it. The controls and how the graphics were in that game killed my interest. The whole AP problem is probably why this game was so famous and probably what let it down the most once it was cracked. Kinda hated when games get hyped up for no good reason.

No thank you
You're missing out on some fantastic games, they don't just do casual crap, their so called "core" titles are amongst the best, shit on Activison anyway.

It was hyped up before the AP, Nintendo showcased this at E3.

What are you on about? Where was I meant to say Assassins Creed?
Isn't that one of there major "core" titles. And they are really good so you are right.
Ah right, I'm not into that series but the last Splinter Cell, Rayman Origins and various others are pretty damn good. They're more reliable than Activision anyway.

"not into that series" as in you don't like it or never played it?
Neither like or dislike, I played the first few games and after a bit I had no desire to return. Gameplay didn't do anything for me and the story wasn't something that held my interest. I'll give ACIII a go, I'm curious with what I've seen so far.

TBH I thought this game was pretty crap, I wrote a review of it a while ago and it was quite disappointing. Controls weren't great, the open world wasn't great, and there was giant flaws like basic physics that made the game really horrid. Honestly GTA: Chinatown Wars is a great game and much more worthwhile for the DS. COP is impressive technically but little more.
