Well I would also suggest Kid Icarus: Uprising.
The online mutiplayer mode is fun to play with people.

That is not a fighting game at all.

I really like my Kid Icarus game, but calling it a fighting game is the same of calling Rayman a porn game.

Now on topic. I have Street Fighter 4 and Tekken, but I've never played DoA, so, I suggest street fighter.

Its between street fighter and dead or alive.

Street fighter:
Pros:
- Good/quick online connection
Cons:
- 90% of online is a fireball spam fest
- No decent story mode
- nothing else worth playing it for (seriously)

Dead or alive:

Pros:
- has breif but fairly good storymode
- has a fair few other modes such as tagteam and survival.
- The figurines can be viewed/taken photos of (Upskirts and clevage shots for the perv inclined too)
- 3D is still the best iv seen in any 3DS game and one of the only games i always play with the 3D turned on.

Cons:
- Online connection is slow and sometimes laggy

Dead or alive's only weakness is ironically street fighters strength but honestly if you dont pick dead or alive then you're a fool.

LOL I'm not a 'Fan Boy' of it I just sugested it because of the multiplayer mode, If you've got the game you would probably understand what I meant and I was only talking about the multiplayer mode and not the whole game.
Yes it is not a 'real fighting' game, I admit, but if you had a lot of fights/battle's in multiplayer mode you would recommend the game. (or ya must totally hate the game).

The best one is Blazblue if you have a good dpad and can deal with no online (unfortunately my dpad is crappy)

But if you have a ps3, 360, or vita, get blazblue for that instead
