Hi Tempers,

Which games go best with which handheld console? Some say to avoid playing games with a lot of text on the Micro or play it on the SP to see all it's glory.

These are what's in my GBA library.

What I have now
Advance Guardian Heroes *
Advance Wars 1 & 2 **
Astro Boy *
Back To Stone *
Baldur's Gate *
Batman Begins *
Boktai 1 & 2 **
Car Battler Joe *
Castlevania Circle of the Moon *
Castlevania Double Pack *
CIMA: The Enemy *
Demi Kids Light & Dark **
Dragon Ball Advance Adventure *
Dragon Ball I & II, Buu's Fury, GT Transformation ***
Drill Dozer *
Dokopon *
Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls 1 & 2 **
Final Fantasy V and VI **
Final Fantasy Tactics *
Fire Emblem 1 & 2 **
Gekido Advance Kintaro's Revenge *
Golden Sun 1 and 2 **
Grand Theft Auto Advance *
Kingdom Hearts *
Lady Sia *
Lufia Ruins of Lore *
Lunar Legend *
Max Payne *
Medabots Gold & Silver **
Megaman Battle Network 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ******
Need For Speed Underground 1 & 2 **
Onimusha Tactics *
Phantasy Star Collection *
Pokemon Emerald and Leaf Green **
Rebelstar Tactical Command *
River City Ransom *
Riviera The Promised Land *
Robopon 2 Cross *
Samurai Deeper Kyo *
Shaman King I & II, **
Shining Force *
Shining Soul 1 & 2 **
Spiderman Ultimate *
Summon Night Swordcraft 1 & 2 **
Super Robot Taisen 1 and 2 **
Sword of Mana *
Tactics Ogre *
Tales of Phatansia *
TMNT 1 *
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Nexus 2 *
Yggdra Union *
Zoid's Legacy *
Zone of the Enders: Fist of Mars *

What I'm still waiting to arrive (incomplete sets, * = I have it)

Breath of Fire 1 & 2 (2*)

I'd like to share the experience on both handhelds as it would be a waste if I used one more than the other lol

So what's your guy's opinions? (For example, playing pokemon on the Micro only?)

I find my micro to be the ultimate in portability, but will only use it for simple games like WarioWare. I use an SP to play my entire GBA library because the screen is easier on my eyes. Its all comes down to the individual user. Either way you have an awesome collection. B-)

Thanks! I'd say my patience is being tested at the moment with shipping and all. I hope to get everything soon!

I agree with your point. My thoughts were exactly that but I had to keep an open mind. So I'm guessing avoid the games on the micro because of heavy text reading? haha There goes most of my library XD

TMNT 1 & 2 **
Do you have the first two in the series by Konami? I prefer the Ubisoft TMNT game that accompanied the CG animated movie that came out a few years ago Between the console version, the ds version, and the GBA version, the GBA one is by far superior. And I like it a lot more than the Komani games.

Oh... I just double checked it lol What I got really is TMNT Ubisoft version and the other one is Battle Nexus by Konami. I didn't know there was more of it? Woops Looks like I bought the brought part 2 of TMNT lol And yes the beat em ups are more fun compared to the Konami versions.

how goes the gba gaming? I recommend playing Advance Wars next! If you like the series there was a fan release a little bit ago that was featured on the front page.

War Room Challenge 2012 - Advance Wars 2 (U) http://gbatemp.net/topic/323987-gbatemp-game-of-the-week-45/

Haha you can see I have quite a lot of games to get through. I've only finished Tales of Phantasia and started Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1. I'll start Advance Wars after that then :)
I'm still missing the first Breath of Fire :( I think its lost in the mail, may have to buy another one =/
Thanks for the link! I'll see how I am after I finish the AW series first :P

Wow that is some list. Makes me wonder what ever happened to my GBA library.. I found the box to Golden Sun and my Sonic Advance 2 carts recently but that's it :(. Oh well, at least the EZ-Flash makes up for some of it.

Advance Wars is pretty fun. At first the way unit health is measured threw me off, but I got the hang of it pretty quick ;). I never found text heavy games to be a problem on my Micro (FF6A, Golden Sun), the only games I had issues with were ones that made frequent use of the shoulder buttons. Great portability, but it gives me finger cramping when playing games like Mario Kart. Pity I don't have an SP to compare it to, but the form factor of the original GBA never gave me problems.

Haha I'm trying to avoid the Pirate Syndrome and I have all physical games mentioned :) I bet your library in your closet if not garage of some sort!

Awesome! Thanks for your input :) So far I got Leafgreen running on the Micro and its bearable and Summon Night on the SP. If you look at the list (its in alphabetical order) I dont have Mario games so cool! I wont have finger cramps :P

Sounds like you are set then! I want to try out one of the backlit SPs to see if it makes a difference. My brothers old non-backlit is around but I can't stand the screen. Can you beleive we used to play like that??

I wouldnt be surprised if they were in the garage, but I do remember a whole lot of SNES carts being sold cheap on ebay by my perants like 6 years ago and kind of worry that they were in the list. All my old GB/GBC games have vanished too, and that was quite the collection ;). I also found my Pokemon Emerald cart that I recently obtained in the U.S plus the box to my Sapphire version.. Must dig around more. :D

Trust me and I know other SP lovers will tell you to at least try the backlight! You could always ask your folks ;) but it be sad to know its gone though.
I think I've got the best lot of games in my library. Mostly RPGs cause I dig that hahah Not sure if I'm missing other gems :gba:

You're talking about the normal SP, right? The "Brighter" one (the one with back-light) is light-years ahead. The screen is crispy and awesome. I also have a non-backlight one, but I NEVER use it, as I find the screen to be TOTALLY awful :P

Get one if you can, it's simply amazing!

@OP
I have also a Micro, and while it's really really nice, I wouldn't advise it for long gaming sessions. Just grab a GBA SP Brighter ;)

I was looking at the K-team SP clone since it seems cheaper than buying a real 101 model (Plus it supports retail carts + roms), but that is for another discussion. The original SP had a horrible screen and had I still been into gaming at that time, I might've tried to pick up a real one. I do love my Micro, but just for those short sessions lol. I'd actually forgotten what handhelds were like before they all became backlit.. I don't miss the days of struggling to see if too much light was in the room or if there was not enough. Playing while laying in bed with the lights out? Forget about it!

RPGs for the GBA were quite amazing, Golden Sun was what sucked me into them originally. There are the odd racing games/platformers available, but they weren't my favourites.

So you dont like gaming at night time with your previous SP?
How much are those K-team SP clone go for? I probably wont go for it since I just recently bought my SP custom made on ebay plus my mother3 micro so I'm quite happy there :yaysp:

Yeah same for me. The Golden Sun series got me into liking the GBA library many years ago. I find the RPGs on the GBA is much more interesting for me compared to most DS ones. I just hope there are much more on the 3DS also.

I was looking at the K-Team GBA recently too, and for around $60-70 it seemed cool. Problem is only a couple Russian sites sell it or something. :(
If it was on dealextreme I'd probably get it cause I miss my SP.

Well I had the original GBA which didn't have as good of a screen, but my brother had an original SP which I played around with a bit. Even with the screens front light on, I just found that it didn't look as good at night.. But all gameboys released before the SP 101 had that issue. The drawbacks of non-backlit screens ;)

There is a thread on here that I will try to dig up a link for afte rwork, but from what I saw it goes for approximately $54US. It's only available on Tobao which is a Chinese site, and you need to order through a shipping Agent who will buy it then send it to you for a commission. Afaik the $54US includes that, but I didn't go far enough through the process to find out. It's basically an SP 101 clone with backlit screen, doesn't play GB/GBC carts but it can run roms with it's personal flash-cart type thing.. But if you took the cart away it'll still play original GBA carts without a problem.

Agreed about the RPGs. There are a few on the DS which I did like, Final Fantasy 3/4, Nostalgia (Underrated game), Pokemon & Children of Mana. They were fun, but alot of them had things lacking from them.. Like Golden Sun on the DS. Alright game, but too many caveats that held it back from being as good as the GBA titles

Edit: Just wanting to make it clear. I didn't mean to draw the attention of this thread towards the K-Team clone, just incase it goes that way. Was only meaning to point out that it seems cheaper than the real console :)

Dont worry about it. The GBA threads are too quiet these days :)

Ah no wonder. Cause I still game before I sleep and game to wake up with my SP or Micro, whichever is not charging haha

Well I got mine for 99 USD for the SP only because I didn't want a second hand one and I just wanted something different with the new 101 screen. So I'm happy with it.
I got my Mother3Micro half the price whatever that crazy Mother3 ebay going for like 499USD or something like that.

Yeah I decided against getting the FF titles for 3 and 4 because the DS remakes were much better so I only got 5 and 6 for GBA. Hmm.. The Mana series on the handhelds seem lacking (only because I've tried Sword of Mana (terrible AI and its frustrating having to level all weapons since its necessary to get through certain areas) and Children of Mana (I'll try it again later since I've got my grinding mood back since that game was pretty much whacking stuff half the time AFAIK). Nostalgia... Never got to finish that game lol Damn pirate syndrome then. I remember it was something British and flying old school aeroplanes.

I think I'll have to play the Advance War series on the SP. The grids a tad small for my liking on the Micro. Zone of Enders even tinier haha

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
