Comparing IV to Crisis Core, then Crisis Core to X was wrong. Comparing IV to X would be more correct. Crisis Core was a spin off. You can't factor it into the same 'main series' as the rest.
No such thing as "Main Series" in Final Fantasy - nearly every installment that is numbered with Roman numerals is a separate entity in itself, sequels to those entities are a different story. Crisis Core is very much a prequel to Final Fantasy 7, it's not a spin-off, it's in the story arc. It's just different. ALOT different.
And by saying FF has 'different story, different characters, etc.', so does Pokemon. Compare White to Red, they're vastly different, yet share the same core gameplay.
Slightly revamped graphics, new Pokemon, new maps, exact same game mechanics that remained unchanged since the dawn of the series. Your argument is moot.
Any 'modern game' based off a franchised conceived in the 80's/90's is the same shit nowadays.
Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Syndicate - I can go on.
Halo is indeed the same shit, Pokemon is the same shit,
Yes.
Mario is the same shit,
No.
but if the shit is fun, who gives a fuck?
If you get your jollies from playing with turds, I suppose the argument stands.

Also, I still think it's crap that the game is not on PC - as a result they will not be getting any money from me.
They're called exclusives.
The game is licensed by Microsoft and by now it's pretty much Microsoft's property - there is nothing standing in the way of releasing it for the PC except one minor issue...

Halo is a massive selling-point for the XBox. Some people get a 360 JUST to play Halo games. Seriously, that's the only reason.
That's what I just said?
You said it's an exclusive, that doesn't automatically imply that it will be released for the 360 only to sell 360'ties. It's just exclusive *to Microsoft* much like Pokemon is exclusive to Nintendo.

Why would you need a Beta for it? It's friggin' Halo - just boot your copy of Halo 3 and imagine the graphics are a tad better.

Spoken like a true "i've never played the series before" person.
Halo actually doesn't follow standard FPS releasing. Halo games are actually pretty damn different from game to game. I mean, they all feel like Halo, but they're always clearly refined and different. It's hard to explain, but if you play the games you'd notice. If you don't notice you're blind or have a mental disability that somehow hinders your ability to tell two different things apart.
I'm not just talking more shit either. Though, new shit needs balancing in most cases.

Not having a beta is actually a stupid idea, because it usually provided Bungie with a lot of balancing feedback. Like the fucking nuke-nades in Reach, which they fixed for launch.
Yeah, well, Bungie's not making Halo games anymore. For quite some time. I have played the series, I'm just not crazy for them. They're fun, but not THAT different from eachother.

Aside from vast engine improvements and changes. yeah, pretty similar.
Y'know, when you compare Counter Strike to Counter Strike: Source, you will eventually reach the conclusion that it's the exact same game with a different engine and graphics. Extreme example, I know, but Halo is very much like that when you consider that it's being stripped more and more of Single Player features in favour of Online ones.

Sadface.

Also, no Foxi, Halo: Reach had mountains of new content in the Multiplayer. I imagine Halo 4 will be the same way.
*gasp* Jetpacks!

No. It's Halo. It's all the same, mate. Guns, pew pew at the other player, ride vehicles, throw sticky grenades. It's been like this since the dawn of the series.
Have you lost your mind?
Invasion
Revamped physics
New weapons
Improved Firefight
Expansive armor customization

Crisis Core has been called "[a] Final Fanatasy VII spin off..." by many. I'm willing to say it's a spin off.

Oh no, while that may be true, I was referring to the story. You know, like you did with FF.
White has a story. Red not so much.

So it may not be the greatest analogy, but the argument stands.

And Mario hasn't changed much. He and Sonic are still the platformer-type game. Whether ir be 2D or 3D, it's still RUN JUMP GOAL!!!

Halo is a multiplayer game.
Most people don't care about the campaign since bungie sucked at telling a story anyway (and they had a lot to work with with the Halo universe).

Engine tweaks are HUGE. Games like CoD don't do that. Well, maybe they literally tweak them a tiny bit. But with Halo (and Counter strike) the differences are usually huge and very, very noticeable.

You can treat it as a spin-off due to the fact that it's so much different then the usual Final Fantasy, even the developers sometimes refered to it as a spin-off, but it's still a part of the story arc.

White has a story. Red not so much.
You don't seem to understand my take on the word "story". Each Final Fantasy game happens in an *entirely different world* that isn't even remotely connected to the previous one. It's a "special case". Also, Red/Blue had as much of a story as White did, it was just presented in a less elaborate manner.

So it may not be the greatest analogy, but the argument stands.
Sure.

Sure, just except the fact that Sonic since Sonic Adventure features intricate stories and so does Mario, to the point that both recieved the RPG treatment.

Yeah, it does. What else would I have meant went I mentioned "exclusives"?

ONI. Get it.

Bungie resigned because they felt confined in the Halo franchise, they felt there was no need to expand it anymore and they grew bored of Microsoft simply demading the next installment to cash in - they wanted to develop "something else other then Halo" and under Micro-management (see what I did there?) they could not.

Engine tweaks are HUGE. Games like CoD don't do that.
Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3...?

I see what you're saying, I partially agree, I just don't think that a Beta is all that necessary.

It's part of the FFVII story arc, not the FF series story arc.

No, Unova is set far, far away from all the other regions.

Ah, but those are spin offs, see. Mario's 'main game' story is 'Save Peach' in the main games. Sonic's 'main game' story is 'Stop Eggman'. And they still are.

Exactly what I said - exclusivity to Microsoft, the developer of Windows. The title could be released for the PC and it would still be a Microsoft exclusive - that's what I thought you meant and I stand corrected now that you corrected me. ;)

If you're going to say "spin off" every single time you're wrong, we might just as well treat every single game in every series as a separate entity and get on with our lives.

Besides, you're mixing "story" with "arch villian" or "purpose".

No, the platformers are the main series. When they venture into a different genre, it's either a new series in the franchise or a spin off.

I miss Halo: CE on PC. If Microsoft releases Halo 4 on PC with the possibility of custom servers I'd honestly be in a pickle trying to decide whether to buy on Xbox or PC.

That... is just not true. There is no established story ark in Mario or in Sonic - the games are only loosely connected with eachother.

While Mario games are loosely connected, I'll give you that, but Sonic 4 is a sequel to Sonic 3.

EDIT: I said actually way too much.

I wuv u.

And for examples:
Halo 1 > Halo 2 = Duel Wielding, better graphics, superior map design.
Halo 2 > Halo 3 = Pretty much everything that made Halo 2 but on roids.

I'm only counting those, too lazy.
