Hardware Recommendations for a 32GB SD card

After reading up about the Nintendo Network coming soon, and the ability to purchase digital copies of packaged software, I figured I'd skip getting a 16GB card and say to my 3DS, "Hey 3DS, you get an early birthday present! Look! 32GB! Enjoy!" Question though is that there are many brands of SD cards, and they also differ in Class rating.

Anyone have any recommendations on a particular brand, class rating, etc?

got a 16GB class 10 for mine
cost me £10 and tested it and it is a class 10, just shop around and look at reviews

Looking at reviews is key, and avoid OEM and own branded SD cards best you can.

I am using a 16gb Class 10 SD card by Integral and cost me £8.89 and is great - I will post up benchmarks in a sec mate.

The best SD card, to be fair, is the SandDisk 32GB Ultimate SD card - beats most cards, but is more expensive because of this.

A good compramise would be either a Transcend 32GB SD card or an Integral 32gb card like mine.

Class 10 is not needed with a 3DS, but it's always nice to have nippy transfer speeds.

Sum-up (best first, worst last): SanDisk, Integral, Transcend.

Kingston SD cards are OK, but tend to fall below class 10 mark even if they were advertised as Class 10.

The 3DS support SD/MicroSD with SD adapter & SDHC and maybe (not sure) SDXC cards but I doubt it support SDXC.
SD cards ranges from 256 or something to 2GB, than SDHC take's over with 4, 8,16 and 32GB sizes. Than comes SDXC which i have seen some with 64GB, but like I say'd. I highly doubt that the 3DS support SDXC

EDIT: As for a fast SDHC card, I would recommend a "SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC" (15MB/s Read & Write)

3DS

3DS console is compatible with SD Cards that are 2 GB (Gigabyte) or less, and is also compatible with SDHC Cards (so-called High Capacity SD Cards) up to 32 GB. SD Cards with a capacity higher than 2 GB, and SDHC Cards with a capacity higher than 32 GB, will likely not work with the 3DS console.

What's the point in getting Ultra cards when the 3DS will not be capable of utilizing their write speed?

A standard, everyday 32Gb Sandisk will be just about enough for ya. Toshiba's are alright too (from my experience). Generally any big "name brand" will satisfy your needs.

The 3DS will work with SDXC cards as long as there is no artificial 32GB limit in the firmware. The only reason SDXC exists is because Microsoft does not allow any drive/partition larger than 32GB to be formatted as FAT32 so they came up with SDXC which uses the exFAT filesystem by default. Many times it will work as long as you reformat it to FAT32 with a third party tool like fat32format/guiformat.

Not to burst your bubble, but it's not because Microsoft felt like it - that's the File Allocation Table limit. It was designed with it in mind back when 32GB was a distant future.

Being a MicroSD enthusiast, I reccommend nothing but MicroSD format through their sheer versatility...

Why settle just for SD when a MicroSD fits in multiple devices with and without adapters. PSP's, Flashcarts, Phones, cameras, the sky is the limit.

On the 3DS, if you're plan on using it for retail 3DS games, than I would accept nothing less than a class 6 micrsd card.

AmazonBasics sells 16GB Class 10 MicroSD for $26.
Transcend sells a 32GB Class 10 MicroSD for $51.

Class 10 is the fastest write speed on a MicroSD. Speeds for me average 15MB/s, but top at 18.

Put MicroSD in a SD adapter, and you have a 32 GB SD card for your 3DS.
Put MicroSD in a MS Pro Duo, and you have a 32GB Pro Duo card for your PSP.
Put MicroSD in an Mp3 player/phone, and you have a 32GB MicroSD for music & apps.

Of course I don't need to point out you can do the same thing for any SDHC compliant device.
