Okay, here's the back story.
While enrolled in college I had access to Windows XP Pro (Sp1, Sp2, or Sp3 automatically included). I also have access to Windows 7, but it's too demanding for my netbook, so I would like to stick with Windows XP.
Hopefully someone can help me out with this because it's become very aggrivating. I recently reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro (last night, full format, completely fresh). I have the newest Java and Adobe Flash, downloaded from their respected official sites. Now here's the kicker...
YouTube, Hulu, Pogo... all those "good" sites load fine, but anytime I try to load X-Tube or any other adult sites, EVERY web browser gives me "The page cannot be found." (Let's be real. I'm a 25 year old guy...) If I "jump" the browser (open a lot of tabs and slam the server with requests) it will load the background, logo, comments, thumbnails, but no ads and no video. Obviously the company who uploaded Windows XP for the students to download put something in there to block certain sites, which I feel should be illegal seeing as I had to pay a "tech fee" every semester... ANYWAY... Windows 7, from the same host, does not have this problem at all. I've checked my hosts file, even replaced them with copies from a fully working XP on my desktop (there's ad blockers in my desktop's hosts file, but I'm able to load adult sites). I tried installing all three hosted versions of Windows XP and they ALL do the same block. I've disabled the firewall, uninstalled Security Essentials... everything I can think of and get an actual search out of (stupid sites that just take what you typed in and slap it into their results). I've never had this problem before with any versions of Windows except this specific version from the school's affiliate. I'm going to email them, as well, and bitch.
If anyone knows any other website blocking methods (outside of third-party software and the Internet Options window), PLEASE give me some insight so I can look into it. I'm not desperate to look at porn (as I said before I have a desktop that works just fine), I'm just desperate to fix this problem because who knows what other sites will be affected. I want my fresh install to run as it should. Thanks in advance!
[EDIT] I remember, now, that this was the same issue I ran into when I first installed XP, which was what lead me to install Windows 7. I had Win7 for several months, but didn't like how long it took to load things, even with graphical oohs-and-aahs shut off... it looked like I was using Windows 95 haha!
