Hey there

I recently decided to play my wii again after a while of not using it. I had modded it to allow me to play games from my hard drive using usb loader gx. However now when i try and pay usb loader gx just fails to find the hard drive and either freezes or times out.

As i couldnt really remember anything about hacking the wii i decided to just flash an old nand.bin to get my wii to a factory fresh state and then use modmii to get everything up to date using the wizard.

Everything went fine and dandy until i tried to play a game from my HD. I doesnt matter which loader i use wiiflow (wiiflow just stays on the slpash screen forever, CFG (cfg says OK! but then just freezes, GX just fails to find the hard drive.

So at this point i figure something has gone wrong with my hard drive. I plug it into my computer expecting it not to show up but wii backup manager sees the wbfs partiton fine with all the games installed on it (the hard drive is half wbfs half NTFS).

Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated guys. Thank you!

OK, however i need the NTFS partition as i store some personal files on it for carrying about between computers. Can i jsut partition the WBFS to fat32 and everything be ok? Thanks again.

Also could you tell me whats happened with wii hacking recently to make you recomend not to use WBFS? Back in the day it was the only way to play backups. :)

Are your personal files larger than 4gb? If not then just put the whole drive as FAT32, otherwise if you NEED to have a NTFS partition then just make sure it is the second partition.

Things have changed. WBFS just sucks... period. Working with files on a FAT32 partition is a lot easier than needing special software to be able to manage games. Plus you can store a lot more on a FAT32 partition than just games.

hey i converted the wbfs partition to fat32 using wbfs2fat and tried cfg again but it still does not work. windows now recognises the partition and i can browse all the games on it in a folder called wbfs with extensions .wbfs. Is this correct should the usb loaders be able to load it? Any ideas guys? Thanks!

I remeber having a trouble with a cheap USB cable, the HDD was avaible on the PC and you were able to do all kinds of stuff, but on the Wii never showed up, but this was a 9ft. USB cable, then I used the one that came with the HDD and problem solved, I stop using WBFS a couple of months ago and I changed to NTFS, so I don't believe the file system got corrupted, but you still need to transfer all of your games to somewhere else, format and reinstall them so you can discard the option of a corrupted file system...!!

I'm sure that his filesystem is now corruption free.
If there is doubt there are more then enough filesystem checkers for fat32 (windows even comes with one)
No need to do hours of copying just for that (MAYBE as a last resort kind of thing).

My guess would be on the cable too.

And try the other usb port. While loaders generally use the bottom one you may have changes the config.

Fat is used by other programs too. Try picking it up with hbc and wiimc and the like.

Btw: yes that filename/folder format is exactly what most loaders want.

Hey guys!

Thanks for all your help. Its fixed! All your suggestions were very helpful! In order to get it to work i had to get ris of the ntfs partition and reformat the whole drive as fat32. I think the ntfs partition become corrupted as well and was confusing the loaders. but yea all fixed now and working great! Thanks again you guys were awesome!
