I did Ctrl+F for "hardcore gamer," but nothing came up :(

must be because Nintendo is not in to the retarded casual vs hardcore shit and they just make games and aming devices that anyone that wants to have fun would play cuz as we all know that the point of games

Woot @ Japanese game developer encouragement.

Read all those bold parts and I must say, Ninty's really trying hard to catch up. We shall see if they can really prove themselves after the Wii U launches for 4 - 6 months.

*Digital distribution infrastructure is there, it's just a matter of whether or not digital distribution will discourage retailers from ordering shipments. If Nintendo offered cheaper downloadable retail games, there's little to no incentive for retailers to keep selling 3DS carts. In effect, Nintendo could sabotage sales of retail games. Ergo, i'd expect Nintendo to sell downloadable titles to around the same price or just a tad bit cheaper.

*The Add-On Content prospect is still unclear on whether or not they're referring to SM3DL or the new upcoming 2D Mario. If they are referring to SM3DL, then we should rejoice, because it means Nintendo has found a feasible way of bringing extra content to already published games. Caveat is if the SM3DL they're referring to is a downloadable release and not the ones on cartridge. Also, Maka Wuhu fix.

*Micro-transactions. Think, what if: Animal Crossing would now include a shop that sells in-game items for eShop points. Major fail if the 3DS gets hacked for piracy/cheating, because that would ruin the micro-transaction aspect.

*Nintendo poised on taking advantage of the fact that there's LITTLE TO NO western 3DS developer right now. Nobody's making games for the western world, so Nintendo wants Japan to fence that big empty lot. They wanna bring Japanese games into the Western markets, with Nintendo backing them up. COULD MEAN: moar localizations. here's to hoping the big leagues in Japan gets translated (not butched/Americanized). Also, yay for more IPs!

*Nintendo planning on creating a new market or taking a bigger slice of the pie by expanding the entire gaming population. COULD MEAN: moar casuals? moar shovelware? or new innovative titles? maybe more non-gaming software too (like more of those educational tools and whatnots).

What I got from reading most of it:

Nintendo is greedy and doesn't want to offer downloadable full 3ds games at a discount.

Nintendo is still living in hello kitty world.

Nintendo is still behind the times.

Nintendo repeating their mistakes they made with cards and refuse to make big changes required for keep up with the rest of the gaming world
The way I'm seeing it: you are ALWAYS comparing Nintendo with MS and Sony, like 100% of the time.

Surely some comparison is good, but isn't it too far to compare like... all possible aspects?

All companies have a different way of infrastructure and if all are the same (premium DLC content, trophies, full title downloads - which they are considering), it would be no 'fun'. I mean it. It's going to be such a boring world if everything were to be the same.

Others might add 'they'll lose out of the competition since they're soooooooo outdated', but why are they still quite successful? They have another way to attract gamers (where some people like you do not like) as their way of business is different from the rest.

tl;dr every company is unique on its own, regardless of whether they're lazy or still in a hello kitty world.

You must rank higher than Iwata in the big N's chain of command -

According to Iwata, the quality of graphics that Wii U is capable of processing will ensure that fans of first-person shooters will want to play games on Wii U.

"For popular genres in the Western world such as the shooter games, the picture quality is actually very important," Iwata told Mercury News. "As a result, we have not been able to provide hardcore videogame players with the option they really want with the Wii. That sort of picture-processing issue is going to be solved this time around."

He added: "These hardcore gamers are the ones that are looking forward to something brand new, some brand new entertainment. With Wii U, we will be able to provide them with that."

There may not be anything about the hardcore in the article (although there's a bit covering the senior/elderly population of gamers) but to say that Nintendo doesn't try to provide for every demographic is ignorant and seems like a comment made by someone not actually familiar with Nintendo.

The Bonus Made Me Laugh. Good statistics about swapnote, and the add-ons/dlc would be epic, what i would really like to see is full games on the e-shop for download.

You know, sometimes it just feels so awkward when you open up the 3DS retail games section in the eShop and see every game as 'Unavailable'.

Exactly why bother adding all the info, videos, pictures etc. and then not put them up for sale. I know I had like $60 on the E-shop like 3 weeks ago.

That's misquoting. It actually says "Unavailable from eShop", or something to that effect. And besides, would you really rather play, say, a 4GB game like RE:R on a measly SD card instead of the obviously superior cartridge chips? Unless SD cards today are faster, I suspect that would deliver a not-so-optimal game experience for most. Expect lag and framerate drops.

But add-ons, yes. We've yet to see any news about game fixes though. So far it's just add-on content, and this feature *might* be fixed to games that support it--which so far all we know is that it's Super Mario 3D Land (they keep using it as an example), yet this feature was never specifically announced for this title. But we just don't right now.

Hadn't you heard from the Sony fans? Nintendo is successful because lots of people we don't like and can throw blanket terms over buy their systems.

Naturally, I only play mature games for mature gamers such as myself.

I think there's not much difference. Even with demos the game is still 'unavailable at eShop'.

Nowadays it's basically comparing FLASH memory to FLASH memory - it's pretty much "same difference". There can be no framerate drops or lag, if anything, a crappy SD card would cause longer loading times. The game itself is played from RAM memory (unless some content is streamed, they sometimes do that with music or FMV's, but even then you'd need a REALLY bad SD to experience lag), so no - it's same difference. There is NOTHING that's stopping Nintendo from releasing full games as Direct-to-SD downloads other then the structure of WFC itself which doesn't allow downloads that exceed a certain size (forgot how much, really...).

The game IS unavailable in eShop, but the demo is available (or at least, depending on whether or not the demo is released). But I get what you're saying, that it's confusing to see an "unavailable" disclaimer even though it's ready for download.

Good point. But you know how it is with people spoiled on Nintendo cartridges. A loading time of more than a few seconds ticks people off, and for good reason. As for the infrastructure, i suspect it is already in place and is just waiting for the go signal, or it may very well be already implemented on the eShop and is just waiting for the titles to become available. I think it's the latter, because for all intents and purposes, the demos are already a full-on game in itself--it's just the content that is limited, and it is tagged as a "demo" so as to enable the "number of uses" flag.

please don't say that a demo is a demo, i'm talking about the software package as a whole. the demo is no different, as it is a complete software package already, it's just the content itself that is limited in scope compared to the amount of content available in fully developed games.
