Hacking R4i Problems.

Ok so, first off, here are the specs for the r4i, which I posted in another thread.

Now, I just bought a micor sd, since thinking the sdhc was the reason it wasnt working, but now it still wont work.

Here is the error it gives me.
" An error has occured. Press and hold the power button to turn the system off. Please see the nintendo dsi operations manual for help troubleshooting . "

Any ideas, maybe im using the wrong firmware?

Additional details: The PCB is red, btw, and I can use a 4gb micro sdhc, OR a 2gb micro sdhc, tried both.

The nintendo dsi/3ds has the ability to block flashcarts via firmware updates. That error you described is shown when a flashcart is blocked by your dsi/3ds. You can try looking for an updater for your cart (usually found on their official website), but if there's none to make your cart compatible with whichever dsi/3ds firmware you might have, you won't be able to use it.

As far as I can tell from the image of your cart, I believe this is the download page for it: http://www.r4ids.com/index.php/en/r4i-gold-download

I think that's the oldest of the 3 carts the company has made (meaning it's the most outdated), and I don't see an updater for it. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to update your cart. Your cart can still be used on a ds phat or ds lite.

-Extract the .rar file
-Plug in your micro-SD card.
-Copy the file :V143_Update_R4iGold_Non3DS_NDSL.nds ( or NDSI.nds for DSi's ) to the root of your micro-SD
-Also, copy the contents of ftp://r4idsdown:r4id...iGold_V1.43.rar into the SD card( extract first)
(except for the 2 text files)
-Now, turn on your DS Lite or DSi mentioned above.
-Run the file.
-Wait a bit, until it prompts you to press A.
-PRESS A
-Wait until it's done.
-THERE! Update complete!
NOTE: I believe this will not run on your current DSi, you gotta find a DS Lite.

From the OP's description, I think that the website is r4ids.com, not r4ids.cn. As far as I know, they are two different companies, so you won't be able to use their updaters on a r4ids.com flashcart.

Mine is just a regualar r4i, thank you for the guide, although im not using 3ds, and using dsi.

Well, Sloddir, I think your card is screwed. You'll have to buy one of these:
-R4i Gold 3DS
-Acekard 2i
-Supercard DSTWO
-EZ Flash Vi

I'm pretty sure that card can not be updated past 1.4.1 firmware.

Are you getting an error has occured message? Does your card have a v1.4 or v1.41 or v1.42 on the front sticker? What firmware is your DSi on? You're going to need to get your hands on another DS that the card works on to run an update from the www.r4i-sdhc.com website. To link you to the file I need to know what version of the card you have.

Are you saying with the flash card not inserted in your DSi that you can't access the settings menu? If that's the case you need to contact Nintendo.

Yeah, even with no card in it, the dsi wont let me access settings....the thing is nintendo are probably not going to help me because i've used one of the flash cards..right??

I'm certainly not going to pay them to fix it......

Hoping someone out there could help with this problem...cant afford to buy another ds

While I don't understand why you can't access your settings on your DSi, but I have the same type of flashcard (R4i Gold from r4ids.com), but I've managed to keep it going on both my DSi XL and 3DS with the latest firmware on at least the 3DS. All I did was whenever an update was forced on the 3DS, I would google "r4i+(system name and update number goes here)+update" and I always find an update if it's been a bit. I generally avoid updating my XL until it's been a few months. I also have a DS fat too, mostly so I'm guaranteed a system to use to update it (also it's the only handheld I own that plays GBA games). I suggest that you search for the update for the newest DSi update and have something to use to run the updater. I hope I've helped.
