Before anyone says, I know there as already a thread for this a while back but I thought it'd be better to start fresh.

Did you ever think about the number of times to click a key on your keyboard? Or how much use you mouse button gets? Or even how many marathons your hand has moved while you browse the internet every day? Even better, did you ever think that could actually count for something? Well it does.

Introducing WhatPulse

WhatPulse is a free, simple and non-intrusive program that measures the number of keystrokes, mouse clicks and distance moved by your mouse. It then uploads this data to the WhatPulse website and links it with your user. (Yes, I know what you're thinking, "OMFG a keylogger!!, It will steal all my credit cardz oh noez!", but it's not, and bear with me and I'll explain later). This information is then tallied up over time and you can find out all sorts of interesting things you never knew; you can see your world ranking compared to all those other internet users, you can check which keys you use most frequently, you can even turn all these statistics into a convenient graph for easy viewing and much more!

It's dangerous to go alone!

But who wants to go alone right? Here's where it gets even better. You can join GBAtemp's WhatPulse team and combine your scores to battle against other internet groups in the fight for power (ok, there's no power but there's still glory!... sorta...). And if you haven't got a chance in the world rankings against those button-mashing, 24/7-mmorpg-playing, never-sleeping people (zombies?) then you'll have the chance to compete against normal (am I allowed to say that? :P) people who you know from your very own community. And maybe, just maybe, dethrone the current champion Sephi with nearly 10 million keystrokes!

Go! Go! Go!

So now that I've convinced you into joining head on over to WhatPulse.org to sign up and download the app today. Then, once you've done that, click here to go to GBAtemp's WhatPulse team page and join us in our clicking!

FAQ (that haven't actually been asked, I just thought I'd write some)

OMFG u ***** it's a keylogger, n00b u will loze your moneyz and passwordz!!!!1!!one!!!
Please don't jump to conclusions, it never got anybody anywhere. I can 100% guarantee you that this is NOT a keylogger, trojan, malware or anything of the kind. All it does is record numbers, not information about which keys were pressed on what site or whatever, I have been using this for about a year solidly and haven't noticed any rises in bank transactions (that are linked to this :P) and I can still access my emails with the same password as before. Here's a quote from WhatPulse's website:
And for all you people who are thinking "oeh mi god a keylogger, no way!", well, exactly, No way. WhatPulse is not and never will be any sort of keylogger, it does not collect the keys you type, but only how many keys you type. (see our Privacy Policy)
I don't want crap like this slowing down my ultra-high-end extremely sensitive competition gaming PC, I need to get those headshots!
I havenot noticed any difference in performance of my PC after enabling this program. As I have said, I use this program 24/7 and never exit it and it has never caused me a single problem, ever. Looking at task manager now it only uses 2900K, that's practically nothing unless you still use a computer from 1985.

I have [insert OS other than Windows here], will it still work?
Yes! (Most probably). WhatPulse is available for any version of Windows, Mac OS and Linux and all (to my knowledge work in the same way).

I don't want to be constantly uploading to the internet all the time / I have a laptop and don't always have access to the internet
That doesn't matter! WhatPulse stores the keystrokes locally for as long as you like until you get an internet connection at which point you can chose to upload your stats. WhatPulse also comes with a handy setting that allows you to chose when to automatically send your next 'pulse', you can chose from: after a certain amount of time, when you hit a number of keys, when you hit a number of clicks, or a combination of whichever it hits first.

What if I have more than one computer?
No problem, in fact it's quite cool to be able to compare stats from one computer to the other if you wish to do so. See here for more information.

I still want to know EVEN MORE!
More information can be found on the main site here and here.

Hopefully we can get a strong team going (after spending about 45 minutes writing that, whew) and make things a bit more exciting than they currently are (not that 12 members isn't exciting...).

I'm in!
Can you do this on 2 computers though, on the same account? Because I game on my desktop, and do all the other stuff on my laptop.
Yeah, you can have multiple computers. Heck, you're even recommended to do so (and the intstallers let you select which machine to flag the activity as being from).

I've joined too, Red2Angel. Already in the GBAtemp group. :toot:

I love how Belgium is ranked 7th, such a small country but apparently quite highly developed :grog:
When does it Pulse though? I want it to pulse always, all the time. I've fiddled in the controls but can't seem to find the option to always Pulse.....

I also looked for that. You mean to pulse after every click? I think it'd be too much of an inconvenience server-wise, seeing as I usually get about 3000 keys per hour.
IMO i have it set to pulse every hour.

So what if someone hacked whatpulse for this info ? Wouldn't they be a somewhat ripe target ?

Nope. From their website:
The client checks each keystroke as it is entered to ensure that it is a valid key, but the key itself is not stored. Only the aggregate number of valid keys entered is stored on the WhatPulse server.

They've been around since 2003, and have had no breeches. Only numbers (of hits/clicks etc..) are sent to their servers.
