Greetings.

I just got a Wii console ( i think its the very first one that got released) for a present to my 7yo daugther and i have some questions

1) Is it essential to buy a motion plus addon for my controller? If yes, could you suggest me one? link would be appreciated.

2) Which is the best way to play backed up games? ModWii ? Shall i buy an external HDD, a usb flash, an sd card??

3)Which game do you recommend for my daughtee?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work!

1. Only if you want to play games such as Wii Sports Resort and the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

2. ModMii. I recommend getting an external hard drive and an SD card.

3. I'd go with Super Mario Galaxy (or 2)

Preferebly a non-SDHC card, in other words, a card with no more than 2GB storage. While SDHC cards works in most cases, there is a chance it wont work. normal SD cards have like 99.99% compability.

good!

To make this clear... SD card stores all the 'startup/os' files for the wii to run properly, and at external HDD i store the backed up games?

Sorry for all these newbish questions :)

While there is a way to play games off of an SD card, it's just easier to go the external drive route. I have a 1 Gig SD card and that's got loads of room to spare, so you don't need to worry about size - you may want to pick up a Sandisk one though, just to be sure of compatibility. A 500Gig disk will be absolutely fine for backups, and they're really cheap nowadays so you needn't worry about price. Just follow the guides on this board about how to set it up with ModMii etc, and you'll be fine :)

Generally, yes, that's the case.
What? no, SD is used for softmodding and homebrew, you could also save gamesaves and channels on it, but there won't be Wii system/os files stored on it..

since i ve run out money, i wonder if the backed up games could work on a usb flash ( 4Gb ). Should i stick with burned DvD's?

If the drive work in your Wii, then yes. usb flash drive or usb HDD makes no difference in terms of backing up games and playing them.

Get a Sandisk 2 GB sd card. And about games, i'd recommend Wii Sports Resort, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros. For Wii Sports Resort, you need a WM+, but you can do multiplayer games with just one wii mote for half the mini games.

Well generally yes but the wii is abit picky so weather your flash drive is supported or no depends on your luck (test & see is the only way to know) the only limitation will be the obvious one of not being able to play big games. As for burned dvds unless your wii is a used couple of years old wii then your wii physically can't read dvds so that's not a choice .

Also for the sd no need to get a new one if you got an old mobile sd hanging around as you won't need more than 1GB for all the launchers & apps you need + the NAND backup .

I use a 2GB sd card but only use around 500mb, its good in case you want alot of things there like emulation for yourself with a few roms and things like that :) its not high capacity sd either so the wii should have no problems reading it

I use a 160GB HDD and i've managed to jam 52 games on it, more than enough to keep a big variation and anyone entertained :)

First of all thanks for all the help you all provide!

If i understand right, to play from a burned DVD i simply put the burned in to Wii ? Do i have to run a programme? Recently i did run ModMii, following the steps you provide on your thread. Do i have to do smth else?
Thanks

There are ways to run burned backups from the system menu but I would not recomend it.
Instead use a special programm to do it (look in modmii)
some usb loaders (like cfg) can also double as a disk loader

But I generally would recomend not using disk loading
its slower, more expensive, wears out the drive, the disks might get scratched during storage/handling and you still have to switch them
even with some old hdd to small for serious PC usage (like 120GB) usb loading is much better

no money at the moment to spend for a usb HDD, thats why im asking for burned disks only. So is it something special i have to look for, or just burn the iso on a disk ( dvd-r or dvd+r ?) and pop it in the wii's tray?
