On a busy street teeming with sidewalk stalls, a young woman looks down at a stack of DVDs held in her hands. Beside her stands the vendor. As the vendor touches the money, we close in on the young woman's eyes. Glimpses of the consequences flash before her. The PSA was conceived and filmed in partnership with MTV Networks and the CauseWay Agency.

i mean WOW what was that.

It was a pretty good ad until they went a bit overboard. I think even pirates can agree that profiting off piracy is a bit on the lower end of the moral scale.

Also, whose the voice actor in the end? He sounds familiar. Like Gary Sinise or something.

EDIT: Also the ad is about counterfeiting, not piracy.

And just yesterday a news article was released where an anti-piracy ad had pirated music in it. To be fair, that's irony at its finest. (PM me for the article, since the website links dozens of torrents I'm not going to get myself banned by posting it.)

Funnily enough, street stands like these can just as well sell regional produce. By not supporting them, you sign the death sentence of small buisnesses and allow larger companies to thrive.

Not only that - "big" companies can also be involved in practices like child labour, "blood materials" etc. etc. simply out of their own negligence - afterall, who's going to check working conditions in the middle of China or Africa? At the end of the day, everything has at least one thread that says "Made in China", so you could just as well not buy anything.

Oh, and don't support that street vendor who couldn't get employed in any other job and at least tries to have a stand with cheap knock-off products. He's worse then the devil and should starve.

Why did the guy selling the stuff have to have a Russian/Eastern European accent?

lol i notice it too but di you notice the person buying it is Asian and a black guy and the girls that looses the jobs is white :D

It's called "diversity". Most ads have it nowadays.

Also, lemme just restate that this is not an antipiracy ad. It's not saying "IF YOU PIRATE MOVIES THEN YOU SUPPORT CHILD LABOR". The ad is against counterfeiting, which is separate from antipiracy.

EDIT: Also, the ad title made me think of this:

I said up until it goes overboard. The message itself of "don't buy counterfeit goods" is far from a terrible message to spread.
I see what you mean, but the video itself was not just overboard and ridiculous, but very old fashion with stereotypes from the get go.
The whole video was silly.

I mean who buys counterfeits anymore with so many free cheap video services?

Buying pirated movies is a shit thing to do, as is profiting off of pirated movies. The ad is ridiculous in the sense that it says I'm supporting drugs, gang violence, and child labor (if I bought pirated movies, I'm not that stupid), but you still shouldn't be buying pirated movies. It's already pretty shit to pirate the movie in the first place, but to give the big "screw you" to everyone involved in a film and give your money to a shady looking fellow who will use that money for god-knows-what is just a dick move.
