This video demonstrates the abilities of the renowned game engine CryEngine 3 to create photorealistic environments by taking you into a tour of the famous Titanic ferry. If this is what we can expect of next-generation console graphics, count me in: most of the video looks like actual video footage! Developed by a small-range studio called ORM Entertainment, this sequence was originally intended to become a Crysis 2 mod. However the studio is looking into getting funds from major editors and hopefully turning this into a full fledged game.

Not trying to cause anything, but I find it funny that Nintendo not in the title. There already been reports that they got this engine running on the wii u.

Anyway, all those graphics and it is just going be cover in gunfire. :tpi:

Tho I like the way it looks, I wish see more. Like a game tech demo in 3rd person whether than
majority of it being static... So, basically more action.

I know it still a work in progress, but I see it isn't smooth as it can be.

that is rather pretty.

i'd like to see that engine running with 40 enemies and explosions galore. what specs would it require to run smoothly and what will that system cost? =/

-another world
hopefully next generation consoles will be powerful enough to do something like that.
I'd rather wait a few more years and see amazingly powerful consoles, rather than having rushed ones now and be limited to what we currently have on PCs.

It looks nice, but I doubt the final product would be anywhere close to this.

Honestly, I think it would be better if developers focused on cutting down the costs of making games instead of just amping up the graphics; that would hopefully give developers more freedom to experiment with the titles they produce.

CryEngine 3 isn't new though and there are already a few games using it...like Crysis 2. These guys are just pushing the engine.
And if anything, consoles are holding back PC graphics. Even if that does sound rather snobbish it's true.
It's rare that high production PC only games are made these days. Easier to just lazily port console games.

You throw enough time and effort in something and you can make it shine.

yeah me too
I guess that people will need to get used to the fact that now Nintendo has a HD console.
even then, you need to be careful with it. The Wii U is seemingly available to developers now (or at least an alpha/beta version). Which means it comes with technology that exists and that is affordable in the current age.
In about two years time the actual next gen will be a lot more powerful than the wii U.. thats just a wild guess though.
You'd think people learned their lesson with the DS, the 3DS, the Wii, etc.

yeah... it's a wild guess, because we really don’t know when Sony/Microsoft will launch their next home console. They certainly, can't do it right now (or in the next years). They still need to support Move and Kinect and sell it.
If they release a new console... it will be like Sega did with the Sega CD - 32X – Saturn – Dreamcast cycle... releasing a new console and stop supporting the recently released new one, and we all know how bad that turned out!

So my guess is that both Sony and Microsoft are going to support move and kinect for the next couple of years. But hey! I’m not Nostradamus! so nobody should give a shit about my opinion :P

It wont run on current console thats for sure, and next gen console should be equal to a mid range gaming pc so don't know how much of it they will exploit but the progress is really nice.

And i dont think it will be like Sega did, Sega release way too many peripheral at the end of its system's life to try to give it more life.

Now current gen console are really old and have the spec of a 6 year old PC at best so I think a new gen should come out soon.

Look at the PS2, lots of great game came out after the PS3 was out. It will take years before the current gen gets phased out since the cost of new console are prohibitive and not a lots of games are available in the first year.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Learn their lesson? You going have to elaborate.
It a big wild guess because you expecting a big jump in 2 years time in still be affordable and worth it.
Besides that, 2 years with a (actual) next gen console, the wii u, you don't think it would
establish and stabilize enough to withstand against 2 year technology?

The wii u is dealing with 5-6 years after tech which devs are saying is like %50 more power.
If they do come out in one or two years, how much % do you think it would go up from the wii u?
Would it even matter? They probably just use that % to make things look "prettier",
more players or something that wouldn't really prolong game development between consoles.

(Just going to stop here)

Except they can move those (Move and Kinect) to the new console.

Agreed, nice shiny walls but a bad "tech"demo IMHO.
Also Not mentioning Nintendo I don't get. They were the first to announce that the WiiU will run this engine.
Seeing that it statisticly will be about 50% more capable than current gen consoles.

But stil this "dead"demo did'nt impress me a little bit.
There are no innovative gameplay elements in here.
